Just came off a 48 hour fast

Anyone watch that naked and afraid reality TV show? They go up to 21 days without really any food. They lose a ton of weight and sometimes by the second or third week they tap out or get taken out due to their health but many of them make it the full 21 days.

48 hours is really nothing for a food fast.

I know. These people screaming about anorexia are nuts. My husband did a 7 day fast once and was fine. He needed to lose some weight though.

I could only do it if I could stay in and lie down when I felt bad. Ever since I was a little kid I would get dizzy and faint if I went too long without food.

Your electrolytes can get out of balance. That is very bad.

You can take electrolyte supplement, drink broth or have more salt. Problem solved.

That's not fasting, then.

Of course it IS fasting. Do you consider electrolytes food? Or salt?..

Even broth - consuming up to 50 cal a day is still fasting.

Anything that contains calories is food. It's so weird you don't consider broth food. I think for most people, fasting includes abstaining from food and drink, perhaps with an exception of plain, clear water. Beyond that, it's not fasting as you're still giving your body nutrition.

Well, most experts on fasting don't agree with you.
And in any case, salt contains 0 calories, so...

lol what "Experts?"

That's called a liquid diet, not fasting. Fasting, which is a compulsion in many religions and cultures, does not include food and usually doesn't even include plain water. Broth and electrolytes are called a liquid diet, not fasting.

NP I am from Europe and there we primarily use the Buchinger therapeutic fasting method. Up to 200calories are allowed. It is a well know program. Nobody calls it a liquid diet. The famous bone broth is the highlight of the day.

The isolated program you follow still doesn't mean you're fasting.

Even people who only drink plain water during these things call it a "water fast" because "fasting" typically includes no ingestion of any sort, of any substances. Broth and similar foods are a low calorie liquid diet, and definitely not a "fast" under any sensible definition of the term.
