I've lost 14 pounds so far - have 10 more to go - NEED ADVICE!

Your BMI is normal. You literally have to starve yourself to lose weight when your BMI is normal.

If you're 5'7" and 155, you should be losing if you average 1450 calories a day. I think you are missing extra calories somewhere.

It might not be your fault--audits have found that reported calorie counts by food manufacturers and restaurants are often significantly understated. See https://www.berkeleywellness.com/healthy-eating/nutrition/article/can-you-trust-calorie-counts

I was going to say the same thing. At OPs weight she should lose even if eating the exercise calories back/eating 1450 cal/day.

Op I recommend continuing to do what you have been doing and just being patient. I find that my weight loss often stalls and then i suddenly lose 2 lbs. If you know you are not overeating then just keep going. Things do slow down as you get closer to your goal weight. but heay, what's the rush?

If you keep to 1200 calories without exercise, you WILL lose the weight. And then I would incorporate exercise once you’ve hit your goal.

There is never a wrong time to exercise. Please, stop coming in to spread this dangerous line of thinking.

Plus 1.

When I hit a plateau I need to change something up. Exercise more or cut out more calories somewhere, so I definitely think not “taking” those extra calories will help. Eat a banana and drink water if you are starving after working out.

Great job!

OP here - yeah, I think you are right. I need to change something...so I've tweaked some stuff and am hoping for the best - thank you!!!

Anonymous wrote:My stats are very similar. I am 5'7" and weighed 175 in April. Since then I've lost a bit more than 30 lbs. and essentially have been at 145 (my goal weight) since September.

I lost weight through a combination of diet and exercise (peloton). Although I am no expert, if I were you, I'd evaluate what foods go into that 1,200 calories you're eating each day. I was successful by generally eating only WW zero point foods for much of the week (and relaxing on weekends). That meant that I was able to eat larger quantities of food than if I'd been allowing for sweets, refined carbs, and alcohol. This approach helped me to stave off the need to "eat back" the calories burned during exercise. Congratulations and best of luck!

+1 I too have very similar stats. I am at goal weight and exercise nearly daily and have a ton of muscle. But what actually moved the number on the scale was WW zero point foods (which amounts to less carbs, less sugar, less alcohol.) Plateaus are very common, especially as you near goal. I once had one that last six months!! Skipping breakfast for a few months helped me break that long-ass plateau.

OP here - congrats on YOUR weight loss! I am incorporating IF for a while starting yesterday morning to see if that helps. Finished eating by 8 pm and don't eat till noon.....fingers crossed.

OP here, I wonder also about missing calories. I even switched out my homemade salad dressing for storebought so I can track every single thing. I will report back in a few weeks.

Anonymous wrote:One of the issues with the calorie burn numbers given for exercising is that usually they don't subtract out the calories you would've burned sitting around doing nothing.

So an app might tell you that you've burned 300 calories after walking for an hour, but not that you would've burned 140 calories sitting down for the entire hour. So you think you can eat 300 additional calories due to exercise when really you've only added 160 to your daily burn.

will this is VERY interesting!!

Yes this is right, although the Apple Watch does give this differentiation when they give you the calorie burn for a workout. it will tell you "active" calories vs "total" calories.

I have never “come in” to do any such thing and am pretty sure this is my first time posting this advice. I said in my post that exercise is great for health. Of course it is. But I happen to believe it is not great for weight loss for the reasons I stated and from my own personal experience. I’m sorry if you don’t agree with or like my view, but that doesn’t make it dangerous or invalid.

Plus 2, 40 years old male. First lost 25 lbs and then started hitting Gym. Gained about 5lbs back since going to the Gym. Then fractured my wrist. So, stopped going to the Gym. But, I still maintain about 20 to 25lbs weight loss for a year. Now, I am onto my last 10lb.

I strongly recommend never to exercise until you hit your goal. Going to Gym makes you crave Salt and Carbs like hell. Once nuts come in your mouth, your body asks for more immediately. So, you will binge eat.

NP This is not true for everyone I have nuts every single day and I've lost 15 pounds. I portion my nuts and then have the willpower not to eat any more. I exercise because it makes me stronger and feel better. I have been exercising and eating less and it works for me so you shouldn't say with 100 percent confidence that your way is the best. Plus, if Op is a woman and you are a man. You can't compare losing weight because it is easier for men to lose than women. Your experience is completely irrelevant to a woman's experience.

NP. Exercise may not be good for weight loss, but it shapes the weight you're currently at in a more pleasing manner than if you don't exercise.

I believe Noom only gave you back half the calories for exercise, which makes sense. Personally, I think exercise has so many benefits that there's never a good reason not to.

Great work, OP

OP Here. I punched through!!! I've lost 1 pound since Monday...these are the new things that I think have helped:
-started IF (last meal done by 8pm, don't eat till noon the next day)
-I have switched out my salad dressing- so that I can count the calories, vs. using my homemade
-simplifying meals so that I can count EVERY calorie.
-I've stopped eating back my exercise calories.

I am thrilled...and hoping for continued progress.

RE: those who propose stopping the exercise....there is just no way I can do that. I feel too good and want to enjoy the health benefits. Also...I don't binge eat after wards. I count every calorie...so if I binged after my workout, I would be able to have dinner ?

Thanks everyone!!

Store bought may be inaccurate. Perhaps try fresh lemon juice and a sprinkle of flake sea salt?
