THIS.

What a stunt. It's DCPS that should be embarrassed for venerating such a greedy, greedy human:

I bet you’re wrong.

Nope, they all know who the richest man in the world is

That’s your opinion not a fact. You should learn the difference.

They’d prob recognize Greta Thunberg or Lizzo or Pat Collins from NBC4 before a billionaire ... black, white, or otherwise. Which billionaires frequent (and create long term student relationships in ) any public high school setting ???

Crickets.

only about three of her 15 or so students recognized Bezos.

Instead of hiding behind ignorant I will call you out as racist. Who cares if they don't know who he is? Were these kids going to get job offers that day? Its good for Jeff Bezos to get an idea of the reality of being poor versus being surrounded by wealthy to umc.

Keep your racism in check please.

I would only recognize him because he was in the tabloids so much after the cheating scandal. Maybe those kids don’t read us weekly?

Why should they recognize him?

Why is it embarrassing? It should tell him he’s not as important as he thinks he is, and it should humble him. I think Dunbar is also mostly African American, so a(nother) rich white guy isn’t going to be exciting to hear from. Why couldn’t they find a speaker that’s relevant to their students?

I think it is awesome that the kids didn’t care or know who he was. (My 10th grade would know and would have walked out - he has read about how their workers are treated and the obscene wealth he has, and the paltry amount he gives to charity as a percentage of wealth).

He was at that school because he gives some $ to subsidize some comp sci classes and the school is a recipient.

Moral: don’t expect a middle aged white dude billionaire to be greeted like a hero by students.

Knowing who someone is and being able to recognize their face and two different things. I was on a field trip recently and a white middle aged teacher absolutely failed to recognize Lin-Manuel Miranda’s face in a selfie a student shared but she knew his name. I bet in a heartbeat she would assume he was “the help” at a function.

I was on the why should they know him camp. But if he is giving significant funds to the school, they should have let the kids know. That is a bad on the school.

Did they ask him why he’s taking healthcare away from whole foods workers?

Recognizable as one of the baldest, weirdest human beings?

Couldn’t have said it better. I enjoyed this video; didn’t find it embarrassing at all. There’s no reason teenagers should know CEOs by name. And the fact that the teen was unimpressed was just funny.
