About how much does it cost for a DC resident to attend a MOCO Public High School ?

For that, you could afford some privates/parochials--that's what we pay for ours (not one of the Big 3s, obviously, which are more like 35-40K). Don't think I'd want MCPS with their overcrowded classrooms, 2.0 curriculum mess, etc. We'd gladly go back to our IB Deal feeder before MCPS.

I don't think MCPS is actually trying to attract out of state residents. Most of the bordering schools are overcrowded as it is.

Just a heads-up. The quality of teaching and the atmosphere really depend on the school. I love Walter Johnson, and BCC, Whitman not so much. Walter Johnson has the selective APEX program which is great.
Since all the best high schools are overcrowded, you'd have to rent somewhere, at least on paper.

Staff morale at WJ is an issue. At some point, that bubble will burst.

I read that report. It's because of the overcrowding, and sadly that won't get any better until 2025 when Woodward will come to relieve the pressure. OP, in case you didn't know, a new high school is scheduled to open in 2025 on Old Georgetown Rd. I'm sure it will be great, but until then, overcrowding will continue to be a problem for the Bethesda catchment area.

Out of the 34 best high schools in the DMV, MCPS has 7 public high schools, whereas VA has 1.Please note SAT scores, National Merit Semi Finalists, and Presidential Scholars data are included.

Note that SAT scores, NMSF and Presidential Scholars are three measures of the same thing, standardized test scores. Note also that Lotus Prep is a test prep company, they have a vested interest in boosting the importance of test scores. There's more to life than test scores.

Even still the data is still valid and shows MCPS has publics more so on par with many area privates than many VA publics.

You can't simply look at the broad data and make sweeping generalizations about a whole district. Are the populations in schools compared similar? Are the schools performing well primarily filled with high SES families? Different families want different things in a school so it is important to look past the test scores.

I think you are absolutely crazy to consider this OP. Crazy and stupid...

You do realize that any one outside the county is placed wherever there is space....

I don't think OP is, MCPS has a lot of academy programs, they are connected to Montgomery College, and they also offer the APEX program as well well as other programs for students who might not be college material.

And you don't think out school systems have that?

Having taught in DCPS and currently in MCPS the breadth and quality of the programs are at different ends of the spectrum. DCPS and some of the charters offer some of the career or college ready programs but the quality is often lacking and most times students are inadequately prepared (particularly for the career readiness programs).

One program that my dear child was interested in was the aerospace and aviation academy. So we moved to MD specifically for this program.

As with all things, my DH and I provide outside enriching opportunities to support our children's learning.

I completely agree with this and I don't put too much weights on rankings based on test scores.... but in academic competitions or on the field performances, MCPS outperforms NoVa and everyone else.

In the world of people who actually do those kinds of competitions. Most people don't bother with them, especially private schools.

Ha, ha, ha, privates do compete in these kinds of competitions. They just cannot beat MCPS.

OP, why did you post this on the DC Schools Forum and not the MD Schools Forum?
