| Don’t forget VCU for their art school and their guaranteed medical school program. |
VT is a safety school for most TJ students. Not many actually enroll there. |

I know from experience with my own kids that W&M (and also presumably UVA) is a much, much better school than JMU. The quality of the professors, the level of academic rigor, and the institutional resources (tutoring, career counseling, available internships) at W&M are far beyond anything at JMU.
In JMU's favor, the food there is much better than W&M's. And the sports are fun. And they certainly know how to party. |
Good student as in north of 4.0, 1300 SATs? JMU is a safety |

"I don’t know, but my DC with a 3.8 gpa (lots of rigor/APs), a 34 ACT & 1500 SAT, and great extracurriculars did not get into UVA last year (and did get into arguably “better” schools than UVA out of state). DC’s friend with similar stats from same HS was also rejected by UVA . ????"
Which school or program did they apply to? If not admitted to the school/program on my application, can I designate a second choice? We do not allow applications to multiple schools or programs. Select the school/program that most interests you at this time, knowing that you are able to change schools as a student at UVA. |
I W & L is a price school, costing 73K baseline. VT is 25K. |
JMU doesn’t consider SAT scores. |
They consider it if supplied |
JMU doesn’t require SAT scores. They definitely consider them if they are sent. |
Um, no, that's not how it works. You don't HAVE to submit standardized test scores, but they WILL be considered if you send them. "JMU does not require the SAT/ACT to be part of your application file. If you choose not to submit standardized test scores, you will not be penalized in the admissions application, scholarship or Honors College review processes. 85% of the admitted 2018 freshman class submitted a standardized test score. The mid-50 percepnt of the SAT was between 1160 to 1320 (out of 1600 Evidence Based Reading and Writing plus Mathematics). The mid-50 percent of ACT composite scores range was between 24 to 30." https://www.jmu.edu/admissions/apply/faq.shtml#Set-1-A-3 |
| Yikes to the spelling error on the JMU site’s blurb about the SAT, of all things! |
where is the error? |
which means that if you don’t send scores, they know they’re well below average. |
Over half of college students change their major, so I wouldn't choose just based on intended major. |
But would they have attended if the were accepted? Maybe that affects admissions? |
