I don’t think I could move on regardless. Just the thought of your baby dying that way would be too much. I would need to be sedated. |
| It was the father of the baby's mom. Will she ever forgive him? |
| Even if I thought I window was closed, I wouldn’t sit my toddler against it. Windows are not intended to hold weight that way. We blame parents when furniture is next to a high rise apartment window and toddlers fall out. Why would anyone think that’s different in a cruise ship? |
Sad story, but your logic is flawed. If a child dies under a babysitter’s watch, then no more babysitters? Under a teacher’s watch? A parent? |
Maybe that’s the idea of blaming the cruise line. If it’s not Grandpa’s fault, she can forgive him. A friend’s son lost a couple fingers on Grandpa’s table saw in an unlocked shed. Eventually, the family blamed the dog (!) for distracting Grandpa who left the saw running and the shed open. They got rid of the dog and moved on. It was surreal. |
Same. I just can’t picture the scene at all. Anyone have an example of what the railing looks like? |
There's pictures now. I'm revising my opinion. That seriously looks like a bank of glass panels that DO NOT open. I bet an employee or another passenger opened the window before the family came out and didn't think to close it after they left. But...I mean...the only option for fresh air would be gone if you permanently locked all those panels.

Not a low window. The window as the middle level, seen here. I don't know what on earth grandpa was thinking to lift her up onto the railing. And he just left here there? If she didn't fall forward, she would have fallen backwards. I know no one wants to blame themselves, but this was a human error - not the ship's fault. And I absolutely LOATHE cruise ships or trips.
Not at ALL like a low hockey pane that is clearly ground level. Grandpa lifted the girl up.

I think this is exactly the logic, and also if they all truly convince themselves it was the ship's fault it will maybe prevent Grandpa from committing suicide or something. I understand the rationale completely. |
Chloe, who was 18 months old, let out a 'blood curdling' scream as she fell, according to witnesses. Her distraught grandfather, right with her, had to be sedated afterwards because he was so upset
|
Yes, it was a bad decision. Common sense would keep toddlers away from these things, but it probably would have been just a close call if the toddler hadn't leaned forward and the grandpa had a better grip. It's absolutely heartbreaking. |
This is true. It'd be the cruise ship's fault if the toddler had wandered up to a panel or slipped through loose railing herself. But her grandpa put her up on the railing with the express intention of doing something she should haven't been doing in the first place. |
The level of the window that was open looks lower than I expected - not even waist high. I'm not saying grandpa wasn't also to blame but I'm seriously surprised another kid hasn't gotten hurt with an attractive nuisance like that right there. |
| The absolute horror of this. I cannot begin to imagine. For all of those involved this is just the worst. I'm glad they have another child so they have a reason to keep living. I don't know how you breathe after something like this. |
Oh god I have to log off. This is too much. |
