Some people have injuries that force them to modify. I’m one of them. Doesn’t mean we should give up fitness classes. Our trainers get this. Glad I go to a more tolerant gym. |

Wow, some of you need to GTFO of group classes and hire a personal trainer.
I am bothered by people who carry on conversations and people who, despite there being plenty of room, crowd me during class. Neither happens often. Everything else listed is a myob (being off beat? Really? Some people just don't have rhythm, they can't help it, who cares?!), though being annoyed by injury modifications takes a special kind of asshole. |
| I’m annoyed when someone needs a modification or has a personal question and interrupts the flow of the class for the instructor to deal with it. |
| I'm annoyed by people who half-a$$ the workout. Not like I get heated about it, but they bring down the energy of the room, slow the transitions between sets, etc. and I secretly wish they'd just stay home. |
| I can grin and bear almost every group workout sin except for smelling bad. If you stink enough that I can smell you anywhere in the room there's no way you're not award of it and it's inconsiderate. I take early morning orangetheory classes and there are a few people who always roll in smelling terrible. I dread them choosing the station next to me. I understand getting a waft of BO now and then as the class heats up, but if you smell like ass before the class even starts, you're doing something wrong. Rinse off before class (or even the night before!), wash your butt, apply fresh deodorant, and wear clean workout clothes. |

I’m the one who posted about doing different things in class. Nowhere did I say anything about modifying moves for an injury, so everyone settle down. Obviously people need to do that. No big deal.
I was thinking about a recent class where two different people did challenging alternative moves. These people were killing it in class. Not compensating. Whatever. Who cares anyways. |
But how do you know? I'm often one of the ones "killing it" in my classes, and I still sometimes need to modify. You have no idea what's going on with someone's body, even the strong people. |
Agree about the people doing totally different things. Modifying a couple of things are fine. I'm talking about the people who use the structure/music of a class to do their own fitness things. It's distracting and kind of a jerk thing to do. |
Not just the BO - but the people who reek of perfume or cologne. That's just as bad. |
|
I get the talking and coming in late...
but people who aren't good like you shouldn't be in the group classes? Seriously? Have you considered it's not intentional that some people go in the incorrect direction for instance, or don't have the same level of rhythm you have but just want to go ahead anyway? |
Agree. Sounds more like you want a one on one session. |
+1 I am also one who is usually "killing it," very strong and flexible, but I have some joints that don't work and so often need to modify. Usually there's not a good modification and I'll end up doing something totally different. And yes, it will be challenging, because that's what I'm there for. You say "who cares" but only after complaining about it. Myob. |
| I hate it when people waltz into a zumba or other class where it's helpful to see the instructor at the last minute and claim a position right up front next to the instructor, crowding out other people and blocking views. It's always people that think they're hot shit and for some reason that particular spot is "theirs" regardless of when they show up |
| All of you should get a Peloton and thank me later. |
