+100. We can all agree that crowding someone else's space is irritating and strong odors are unacceptable, but everything else in this thread is ridiculous. Other people not working as hard as you brings the energy of the room down? WTF. |
|
People who bring their entire life's possessions into the room and leave them where they're in other people's way. People who chew gum and/or wear a full face of makeup.
Yoga-specific: people who walk into the studio wearing their shoes and people who talk or pack up during savasana. |
Re wearing a face full of makeup.... Who cares?! Maybe they're coming from work. I work out in makeup all the time. I'm not going to take the extra step of washing my face before class. Who's got time for that?! |

I’m a member at the y and I love my high energy zumba class, but so do some elderly people. That’s fine they can modify, but they continuously mean about the moves being to high energy. Some of these ladies though can barely move and should be in Zumba gold class. Since they are at the y all day, they have successfully gotten classes changed to their liking and a great class turns less energy.
Other complaints same ladies stopping mid song and having a conversation because they are tired or don’t like the song. I’ve almost crashed into them several times. |
| Ugh sorry for the typos. They moan about the moves being too high energy. |
| I have when a group class is too crowded. I left a yoga studio I loved otherwise because it was so crowded you couldn’t fully extend without hitting someone else. Also scents - perfume or BO. You might stink by the end and that’s fine, but everyone should start the class smelling neutral. |
Hate. I hate when a class is crowded. |

I take yoga classes at the gym and the only thing that really annoys me is when people come in late to a crowded class and then cram themselves into a space that's just a bit too small so that everyone around them has to get out of the pose and move their mats over. It's annoying. And it's often the same damn people every week.
If the class isn't crowded, I don't really care about latecomers. There is also this one woman who comes to several of my yoga classes and just does whatever she wants for the hour. She never really once follows the instructor's instructions. And she is rude to substitute teachers when they don't teach like the regular teachers do- even though she is not going to do what they teach anyway. It's the oddest thing. My teachers and other students really dislike her and nobody can figure out why a person would take the trouble to come to a class and then just do whatever random moves they felt like. Exercise at home, in that case! |

I take group fitness, spinning, and yoga classes and my pet peeves have pretty much been covered but because I'm a grouchy bitch I'm going to amplify a bit:
- people who crowd around you even when there's plenty of space. This happens in my 6am spin class all the time. The room will be 75% empty, and then someone will take a bike right next to me. Like, WHY??? I purposely set myself up in the back row and preferably by a wall so I won't have someone at least on one side of me (I get claustrophobic, plus it's a spin/sculpt class so I don't want people flinging their weights in my face) and then someone comes right next to me when there are so many empty bikes. Totally bizarre. - People who consistently come late. I do a barbell class where, honestly, the first time I went, I was late and didn't realize how much time it takes to set up. So now when I go, I get there 10 minutes early (at least) to snag a spot and get all my barbells set up. But I see women in that class every freaking week who come late and then get in the way of the rest of us. If your schedule doesn't allow you to get there early, too bad. My schedule doesn't permit me to do lots of things I'd like to do, and that's called life. |
| The people who treat it like it’s a competition. It’s not, you are not a great athlete. |
| Why is that some fitness instructors are not fit? |
This is bullsh*t. What makes you say they're not fit? Is it because their body isn't a size 0? You know you can look overweight and still be very fit. |
I chew gum and I'm not sorry. My mouth gets dry and I can't constantly stop for water. |
I've seen instructors who aren't heavy, but don't seem like they can actually do the workout. |
| It irritates me when an instructor consistently can't keep count. I have one instructor who laughs about not being able to keep count and asks during the class if we're "even" on both sides or if anyone in the class has been counting. |
