My mom hates the menu for my preschoolers birthday party

The menu does suck. Straight poor people food. I wouldn’t judge... to your face....

Me too and if she wanted to bring something in the crock pot go ahead.
Now if she kept going in about it ... that is annoying.
“Mim, I already told you bring whst you want, that’s fine, I don’t care, I’m just not fixing anything else ‘

She's your mom. You can't add one item to the menu that will make her happy?

Hot dogs are a known choking hazard, because the size of the pieces perfectly block the airways of small children. I would never feed someone else’s three and four year olds hot dogs or grapes.

Oh and I’m not on a diet- I just don’t eat hot dogs or mac and cheese.

Damn. Between you and the poster who thinks 4 year olds cannot handle hot dogs, I’m not sure who is more of a lunatic.

I’m glad you never had to go to the funeral of a five year old who choked to death on grapes. Some of us are not so fortunate.

This is not a big deal. "Mom, please bring salad, stop on the way and buy it for you and it would be great if you wanted to bring it for the rest of the adults too." Is she staying the night? If she is, I would definitely be a god host that had food for her mom to eat for that day. I also become sick after eating hotdogs, always have. Throwing up and similar. Those things are nasty, but I have a similar reaction to commercial sausages. I wonder why? Is it garlic or what... Might research that. I can't eat shade plants.

I would be fine with her adding to the menu. If she will be eating with the other guests, then she needs to add enough for all.

And “making something in a crock pot” changes your opinion of the food, pp?

There is salad, according to OP - make i it really big and really nice. I do not go to children’s birthday parties expecting a great meal.

I’d be glad for the excuse to eat hot dogs and mac and cheese. Ignore her, OP.

In the past I have done a more elaborate menu but since this year we are keeping it simple and serving hot dogs and mac and cheese (along with salad, fruit and baby carrots)

My mother has been on a perpetual diet since my sister was born 32 years ago. She does not have any health restrictions she just doesn't like to eat certain foods. she told me that she absolutely could not eat hot dogs and that she had to have something else for dinner. She has been going on on about making something in a crock pot because the menu is not acceptable. I'm just about to cave because I'm tired of hearing her kvetch about it

A gracious host makes sure there is food for everyone. You know your mom's dietary preferences and you seem to be deliberately pushing her buttons. Are they staying with you or at a hotel?

What is in the salad?

Why not order pizza?

OP shouldn’t bend the knee to her mother’s disordered eating.

The birthday girl is 4. Your menu is fine. 4 year ods can eat hot dogs.

If there will be more adults maybe get a rotisserie chicken you can slice and have in the fridge. Easy and should appease the hot dog snobs.

It is a pretty bad menu.
