Get a sprinkler and turn it on
film them and call animal control and show it to them.

Multiple times I have found dried pool in our yard and have cleaned it up so our four year old doesn’t step in it. Twice this week I have been doing dishes and watched them let the dogs poop in our yard and not clean it up - both times I went over and rang the doorbell to let them know they needed to clean it up (once was the dad, once was the college kid).

I don’t want to start a war with my neighbor but I am pissed of and would like advice for how to proceed.

I think you are doing the right thing and should do it a few more times.

The advice to be combative with the neighbors is poor advice, ineffective and will only serve to make the OPs life unpleasant.

Got over and have a conversation.

Is their dog on a leash when it's doing this?

I would keep knocking on their door and telling them to clean it up. If they still won't then I would pick it up and do as others have suggested and put it on their front lawn/driveway.

Op here - no dogs are not on leashes when they take them out to use our yard as the toilet. I’ve confronted them both times I’ve seen it happen and guess I can continue to do that. I will have to make the conversation a little different, though, about how are we going to stop this from happening in the future. I don’t want a combative relationship with them but I don’t want them walking all over my family, either.

Part of me wants to report them to authorities or the HOA but I feel like that will just start more conflict.

They are leaving shit in your yard, it’s already a conflict.

have your DH take his morning constitutional in their bushes

First, you need to collect the poop and leave it on their door step, ideally where they will step right in it.

Second, you need a very conspicuous camera pointed at the area of your yard that they use.

I know it sounds like a joke, but given that you’ve spoken to them twice already, and it’s beyond obnoxious behavior to begin with, I don’t see how you have a choice.

They need to be personally annoyed and inconvenienced whenever they annoy you, or it will never stop.

Are they renters or buyers? Downscale or upscale neighborhood? Depending on your answers, I'd probably consider moving. Little things like this can be a signal the neighborhood is on the decline.

What did they say when you confronted them?

I am a dog owner and I have to tell you, that is pretty aggressive. I would never, ever do that to a neighbor (leave dog poop in their yard I mean). You may be looking at a pretty unreasonable, pretty unpleasant neighbor relationship and you'll have to decide how you want to manage it. Of course you're in the right, but you will take on considerable additional annoyance by pursuing it if they're as nutty as they sound.

Aggressive to ask us dog owners to clean up our dog's poop, twice? I guess it might depend on her tone, but either way. We as dog owners are responsible.

Sorry you're dealing with this, OP. The only time this happened to me was when my neighbor got an energetic puppy, and the dog would escape her house and poo in my back yard. After twice knocking on her door and asking her to pick up the poo, the dog magically stopped coming in to my yard...

Have you talked to all teen and adult members of the household? Perhaps they don't communicate with each other, and someone is still not supervising the dogs properly?

What a perplexing situation. I wonder what kind of weird family would do this.

What did they say and do when you talked to them????
I’m with a Po
I’d turn on a sprinkler
Or have a hose ready and when dog ran in my yard
I’d run sour and hose it down
