Yes, it's strange.
My 21 year old DS always wants to be tucked in when he's home from college. It's so sweet.
Yes both kids 16 year old son and 14 year old daughter. On school nights that is. It’s sweet, not weird in the least.
It's a sweet moment of affection and comfort between a parent and child. May it continue on, OP!
My 14 year old DS does this, too. It’s just been part of his nighttime ritual forever so he’s gotten a bit OCD about it.
Though he stays up later than me occasionally now so that’s the only time I don’t tuck him in. |
JUst to add - I also tuck in my 12 year old DD. When shesall ready for bed she calls me upstairs.
We have 14 YO twins and same thing here. Enjoy it!
Only if their bedroom door is still wide open. Never if the door is closed! For obvious reasons. Even I had a nightly "routine" before bed at their age.
My 13 year old still expects it. Lights off. We chat for 8-10 min. Then it’s a quick prayer and a kiss. I close the door.
OP here, and thank you all!! I feel so much better about this now. I was admittedly raised by wolves (3rd child of parents who were very hands-off by nature, and also exhausted by my two older sisters) so I became very independent at a young age and I was worried I would be stunting my kids’ emotional growth by acquiescing to this. But it sounds like I should be enjoying it (which, I guess I’m in the same camp as the PP who said it’s both sweet and annoying) as long as it lasts. Thank you for all your input!!
Not sure how old I was, but probably middle school age. I started watching mystery tv shows, but ones with aliens and men in black, but where they make the stories seem true. I was terrified for months and demanded being tucked in! I agree with all the PP but also want to suggest considering if there is another reason.

I was tucked in by my mother until I moved out at 19.
To me that's healthy. |
My 16 year old DD still gets tucked in, at least by DH if I've gone to bed earlier. And sometimes, DD comes to tuck me in!
My 17 DS still likes when he climbs into bed, I lie down next to him and we go over what is on the schedule for the next day. We have done it for so long now. 16 DS just likes to be kissed and tucked in. Had no idea people didn't do this to older kids.
I don't see an issue. When I went to college I loved the dorms because my roommate and I would say goodnight and talk before falling asleep. DH and I now do the same.
