14 year old still wants to be tucked in at night

My DS 14 asks for the same breakfast he's had for most of his entire life. I make it happily knowing it won't last forever.

My DS is almost 14 and still likes to be tucked in. I am enjoying it while it lasts.

My nearly 16 year old daughter still wants me to tuck her in on some nights. Not all the time, but maybe 1-2 a week? Just enjoy it. They love you and you love them.

Yep, 14 year old DS still gets tucked in every night by me and the cat! In fact, she instinctively comes up stairs to his bedroom area every night around 10 pm. Jumps on his bed and snuggles with him for a few minutes. Then jumps down and leaves. I think he keeps it up b/c of the cat, not me though! But I will take what I can get at this age.

I love this OP.

At some point, be sure you teach your son how to make this breakfast; he can even demonstrate mastery by making this breakfast for you! It's great to have this ritual, but at some point, he needs to learn the basics of cooking. You and/or DH teaching him that WILL last forever.

Anonymous wrote:Is this weird? My DS/DD twins are going to be starting high school in the fall. They still both ask to be tucked in to bed at night. I feel like at this age I was barely even saying goodnight to my parents, let alone asking them to stop whatever they were doing, walk to my room and tuck me in. Am I nuts?

No not weird. It’s cute. Enjoy it.

Love it. A way to connect before bed.

I only wish my super-independent 14 year old DD would ask for a tuck-in. She won't let me hug or touch her, and half the time when I walk into her room (and I knock and wait for her to acknowledge me) she literally hisses like a cat at me. She is such a prickly cactus. She was snuggly and affectionate when she was younger, but then adolescence hit and I became persona non grata. When she is nice to me and actually wants to talk to me it is like the heavens open and the angels sing. (Mind you, she is polite to every single other non-parent adult in her life -- they universally rave about how wonderful she is. She saves all the drama and angst for me instead.)

My 11 year old dd is the opposite -- at least for now -- and my oldest, 16 year old ds, is affectionate too (although not snuggly).

DS asked to be read to at night, regularly up to age 16 and from time to time until he was 18. Loved being read to.

My son, 17, still has my DH sing the same James Taylor tune to him every night before bed. DH started when my son was a infant.

Tell me about it. I miss my DS today it’s he’s birthday. He’s 23 today, he joined the armed forces and is living in Texas right now

I'm jealous OP. Every once in a while I try to tuck in my `6yr old DS...he's mortified by it. My 20 yr old DD however loves it when she's home from college and I spend a minute cuddling with her.
