Any feedback about the younger groups?
"Center of Excellence?" |
OK, after reading this like 5 times I think I finally understand you. So...you are talking about the 1999/2000 team that ended its dream run last year. For those who don't know, Coach Ned brought that team up through the OBGC club. OBGC has not been known as the powerhouse of Montgomery county soccer. It's a nice club, but generally not known for consistently producing top teams. So Coach Ned was working with players who i have heard directly from parents on the team were not ECNL material and did not make 1st level and 2nd level teams in Bethesda and Rush. Through hard work by the players and his committed and gifted coaching he crafted that team into the #1 team in their age group in gotsoccer.com in the COUNTRY. Were they really the #1 team in the country or was that an artifact of the ranking system? Coach Ned himself will tell you they were the top team in MD but were not the best in the country. While they won the State cup they lost to other teams in the nationals. Were they better than most ECNL and DA teams? Absolutely and they beat quite a few. How did Ned do that while not playing in ECNL or DA? Did he attract and retain talent with a name brand like Bethesda does? No ....he created the talent. So you are saying not all of these girls made it to top 10 Division 1 schools? What are you smoking? What team in Montgomery County does that? What team anywhere in the country does that? The fact that he got most of the girls to a place where they had options to play on any college team is a testament to his coaching skills. Crawl back to your hole. |
OK. You are right, I am counting heads on public gotsoccer.com rosters. Well if there are 18 "really" on the roster and sometimes a B team player plays up then doesn't that mean an A team player does not play? Fair correction, but my point remains: in Bethesda and Rush rosters are crowded and games are rationed and playups are limited. Now as for the Rush top teams in 03 and 04 I know for a fact what I said is true. Heard it right from several parents. Go ahead...keep doling out the cash....moo while you're at it. |
Thanks for the info, Coach Ned. |
In the older groups there are tons of injuries. It is a much more physical game once they hit high school. My DD's team had a time were 4 girls could not play for significant periods (ankle/knee/back/hip). Not having enough subs can lead to additional injuries especially once it gets hot out, I have seen it plenty of times. 15-16 per game is a nice roster number as all players can get time. I would not go into a tournament in the high school age groups with less than 16. The EDP National League has switched to a no re-entry rule this spring, these teams may need the bigger rosters. |
I was expecting that. If you really knew Coach Ned, you would know that this post would have a thick Serbian accent if it was Coach Ned posting. Further, you would never find Coach Ned wasting his time here. I am not Coach Ned. I am a parent of a girl on his team. |
Totally agree with all of that. Also did not know about no reentry limit for NL teams this Spring. Whoa. We are short-handed. We are relying too much on playups. Please bring your daughter out to a Bordeaux practice and join the team to help us out. She'll get a lot of play time. |
| So no one has any insight on the '06's, then? |
It is a very good team. Very good coaching. Not sure of roster numbers. I suggest you get on touch with Coach Ned with questions. His email address is all over the webpage. |
Where do these FCGB teams practice? |
For 2006-2003 teams, MDSoccerplex turf and Stone Ridge turf, grass and gym. |
They are going to D1 schools that kids who played on their high school teams are going to. they are not going to the top tier schools, They are attending schools like umbc, st. joe's towson etc, if you play on a decent club and play high school you too can go to those schools and play. Ned tries to say playing high school and his club is too much and the girls miss out on such a great experience. 1 girl on that team has a decent shot at playing beyond the college level if she even plays college. Do you think missing the high school experience is worth it to play at the div 1 schools they are going to? i have nothing against ned but realize he doesn't have a magic wand. and he was part of OBGC until he got approved by Bordeaux. And check the difference of the roster next fall compared to this fall. It will be different. |
I understand and agree the prohibition on HS play was not or is not worth it for your daughter nor for any girl on the team now. I think Ned understands that now too. He has agreed to let the girls play HS next year. I don't know your situation, whether you are a parent of a girl on the team now or a parent of a girl on a the 99/00 team now in college. The point is that this prohibition is not a reason to avoid Bordeaux. It is not restriction in place to play at Bordeaux next year. I think it may be debatable on whether playing their senior year in HS for the 99/00 team was worth giving up for what that team did at the club level..i.e. #1 in state, winning state cup, traveling to national cup tournaments, etc and all the exposure that brought for these girls. I don't know. Hopefully my daughter and her club team has that decision when her team is entering its senior year. Nice problem to have. First World problems. |
Are you saying one girl on the 03 team has a chance to go beyond college (i.e. pro?) or that one girl from the 99/00 has a chance to go beyond college? Either way that is quite an accomplishment for a team playing outside of DA and ECNL. |
| One of the 99s is on the cover of her school's media guide, so could be referring to her. |
