Just for fun...how many kids?

Anonymous
I never really “knew” how many I wanted. DH wanted 2 as close in age as possible.

Currently have 2 boys (4 and 2, 19 months apart) and a 16YO stepDD

We’re done. I could have been done with 1 but I had already agreed with DH on 2. Our marriage wouldn’t survive another.

Always wanted 2. DH is one of 4 and convinced me to have another. Had to be close together because of age & because we struggled with unexplained infertility trying to have the first (took 3 years). So we now have 3: 4, 2 and 3 months (all 24-25 months apart). We’re finished; I’m glad we had the third (as of now).

Wanted two at least. My fantasy world would have 5 really wonderful children. Especially for the grandkids!!

I have three kids. Tubes tied. I suppose I’ve heard it’s possible one could sneak through that isn’t ectopic, over the years. But it should stay at 3. (*i assumed impossible when doc and I talked over the procedure—part of my CS. And ive heard it’s impossible. Then I read that the percentage risk goes up by 1% each year, starting at 100% effectiveness in year 1. I’m 34, with dna of long fertility. But then I mentioned it to friends, and they said I’d have no more than an ectopic. A convo to have with my gyn again).

And one MC too. Talking to so many other women, I find that 1 is a low number. Know so many with 2-3 at least.

Wanted 3

We stopped at 2

Still wish we’d have had 3

2,2,2. DH wanted 4, but quickly changed his mind when he saw how much work 2 was

Wanted 5
Have 3
Plan to stop after the 4th

We dealt with 5 years of infertility and miscarriages before our first live birth which took away so much time we thought we had. Feel very blessed to be on the other side of that now.

Wanted 3, DH wanted 1 or 2, so knew going in 2 was the magic number.

Have 1. Trying for 2.

Wanted 2. DH wanted 3. I said I’d consider a 3rd if 1st 2 were the same sex. We have a boy and a girl, so I’m done.

wanted 2 (eldest of 5...didn't want the chaos)
Have 1 that I had at age 42 (lost one during pregnancy)
Unless we adopt, will end up with 1, I'm 45.

1 (and 1 much older stepchild)

Every once in a while, I wish we had another, but mostly because I do really enjoy cuddling babies, and other peoples’ babies aren’t the same since I had my own. Between age, introversion, and careers, one and done works for me.

How many kids did you want before having any?

How many kids do you have now?

How many do you think you’ll end up with?

But please don’t judge people’s choices on this thread. It’ll just be interesting to see how things change or don’t.

3, 1, 1 (not my choice)

Wanted 3-5
Have 2
Will probably end up with 2 (slight chance of 3).
