Blue or green tile kitchen- I think its Mexican Talverna that I like -all the bold colors. One image says Tuscan.

But none of those looks go together.

This. Which one of these looks do you most prefer? I can't imagine trying to have all 3 of these very different looks inside of one house.

OP here -yes I completely agree. I'm also sort of a stickler for not liking houses where the exterior style doesn't go with the interior style. We have a clean looking federal/transitional style house so all the whites, grays and creams look nice but just aren't what I really like. Its boring. It could go the federal traditional route I guess but it would look silly with Mexican or Italian tile, 50s bathroom or big floral wall paper. I'm having a hard time figuring out what else to do since what I like will not work.

I love an accent wall, though a lot of people say that it’s over.

Possible that I love paint colors that aren’t trendy. I like classic stuff (but to others it might not be classic, might be labeled outdated).

Yep. I’m the princess of chinz!!

I love bold wallpaper like you linked to, OP. If I were you I’d do the less expensive cosmetic updates you like, but I wouldn’t do things like your entire kitchen in that blue tile. That’s an expensive fix if you ever want to sell the house and would really turn me off from buying it. But wallpaper? Easy fix.

Yay! I love a bit of pomp and circumstance on my walls.

Seems an extreme reaction to wallpaper, no?

Well, that is a tougher problem. Otherwise, if the exterior style was irrelevant, I do think you could have a house with two of those three -- the wood paneling in a study or office and the big floral wallpaper in a dining room. I love the look of the Mexican/southwestern kitchens but that is its own thing.

One option: work on getting to know Federal style really well. It may grow on you. If it seems boring to you now, it may be that you haven't gone deep enough. You may begin to see small areas of it that you quite like, and maybe others where you could bend the style a little to your liking without making you feel you've violated your rule about exterior and interior.

Another option: start with a separate area like the powder room, master bath, or master bedroom. Try the floral wallpaper in one of those and live with it awhile. If it makes you really happy, you might want to continue it, or feel emboldened to follow your desires further regardless of the exterior.

Can you satisfy your urge for colorful Mexican tiles with colorful Mexican pottery dishes? You will see them every day but when they are in your cabinet they won't fight with the Federal scheme.

I like Tuscan/Provence style decor, ochres, peach and orangey walls etc

Wall paneling has existed since medieval times. Sometimes it circles back into designers' workbooks, but it has always been there.

When I own a home, one of the first things I do will be put tropical greenery wallpaper in the bathroom. I really like wallpaper, and think it can be done nicely.

I like vinyl and lamninate floors (as well as hardwood) because they are practical.

i love gray paint which is apparently "over". Just got a new house, and I can't wait to paint the walls gray!
