Well, that is a tougher problem. Otherwise, if the exterior style was irrelevant, I do think you could have a house with two of those three -- the wood paneling in a study or office and the big floral wallpaper in a dining room. I love the look of the Mexican/southwestern kitchens but that is its own thing.

One option: work on getting to know Federal style really well. It may grow on you. If it seems boring to you now, it may be that you haven't gone deep enough. You may begin to see small areas of it that you quite like, and maybe others where you could bend the style a little to your liking without making you feel you've violated your rule about exterior and interior. :)

Another option: start with a separate area like the powder room, master bath, or master bedroom. Try the floral wallpaper in one of those and live with it awhile. If it makes you really happy, you might want to continue it, or feel emboldened to follow your desires further regardless of the exterior.

Can you satisfy your urge for colorful Mexican tiles with colorful Mexican pottery dishes? You will see them every day but when they are in your cabinet they won't fight with the Federal scheme. :)[/quote]
