Athleta girl sizing... as an adult?

I’d order online to try it out - free shipping and returns. I think you’re in the border of it working but it can’t hurt!

If a small at athleta Is a two what are my XXS pants? Negative size? No, athleta is one of the worst for vanity sizing. I wear an xxs there and the only things I own from girls are a skort or two.

I am a size 4-6 and I can wear Ivviva leggings in the high rise ones in a 14 and they fit me perfecto!! And they are cheaper. My daughter who wears a 2 can also wear them. They must be stretchy!

Really?? I’m 5’4”, 125 and just bought a pair of the Fold You So leggings in a size L. Look at the size chart. That translates into a 26” waist. OP could probably wear an XXL.

Only OP knows her dimensions. For all we know, her boobs could be giant and heavy or she has a giant head. FWIW I weigh just a bit more than OP but I am 5 inches taller and I can wear a girls size XL- sometimes.

I believe sales associate told me a Athleta Girl 14 = women’s size 4, but I’m not 100%. I’m sure a sales person would help you.

Buy adult clothes. You aren’t a child’s size at that height and weight.

If you have a larger waist for your body weight, or a higher waist-to-hip ratio than average, it might work.

Am speaking from experience as someone who is 5-2 and 110 lbs and has tried on some Athleta Girl items in the past. The cut of children’s’ clothing often doesn’t flatter an adult body. The proportions are just off. Maybe you can get away with it for stretchy athletic wear. But I vote for just finding some nice items from the Athleta women’s site!

Hi there!

I think I can be of help, as I am an adult woman (size 0,2,-- XS in Athleta womens, 115 lbs, 5'2, A cup) and recently bought some Athleta girl things for myself!! I even spoke to the Athleta sales associate-- and she was wearing an Athleta girls item!

An Athleta girls size XL/14 is equivalent to a womens XS.
An Ahtleta girls xize XXL/16 is equivalent to a womens size Small.

There are caveats to this, as there are differences in seams in adult wear and children's. For example, my Athleta girls pants do not frame my butt with stitching in the complimentary way that the women's wear does-- because it is designed for young girls who are in the early stages of pubescent growth. Also, the cut around the arms for shirts are much tighter. But, if you have very small shoulders and thin arms, this should not be a problem. I have more toned shoulders, so I chose not to get any of the girls wear for shirts as I could not work out comfortably in them. Also, something to think about is bust size.

So, in summary, I think if you are at the smaller end of a women's small (sometimes 2, sometimes 4) you can fit into the girl's wear at a size XXL (16). Honestly, I think if you tend to be a 6, then the girl's collection will be too small for you. However, this could vary with what item you are interested in. If you are interested in sweatpants or trackpants with a baggy, adjustable fit, then maybe a XXL could work for you.

Also something to take into account is height! I am 5'2 and buy from the petite section of Athleta. So the length of Athleta girls leggings works for me great! I would recommend looking at the length of the pant and then comparing it with the length of an Athleta womens pant that fits you comfortably.

Good luck! I appreciate your sense of bargaining (:

+1. The PP who is 5’2” and 115 I could see fitting into the largest girls sizes. 5’3” and 130, uh no. And if they do “fit,” they’ll be unflattering.

Well, my ~4’9’’, 90 pound 11-year-old now wears Athleta Girl size 16, the largest they make. The size is slightly loose so will last her a year. But once she hits 5’/100 pounds I’ll have to switch her to an adult size. Certainly by age 13.

I’m 28, have had one kid. My pants are size 4, my but is large , my breasts are small. I fit into athleta girls clothes size xxl. Half the price and fits perfect ! Hope this helps . Also, when I have bought women’s size pants from there in the past they were size M. How I can fit in a girls xxl pants and a women’s m beats me but it works and I’m not complaining.

The hip size on the girls XXL is the same as a woman's 00, while the waist is the same as a women's 10. Sounds like a crapshoot as to whether it would fit a petite woman.

I usually wear an 8 at 5'4 and 125 pounds, but maybe OP doesn't have any hips.

I know this is an older post but in case anyone is still wondering here is my experience. I am 5'3" and weigh 106 lbs. I tried virtually every pair of adult swim shorts from Athleta in XS and XXS. None of them worked for me as there was too much fabric and I was looking for a boy short type tight fit. (Like a lycra bikini bottom but with more coverage) On a whim I tried on the girls version in store. The XXL (16) was too large on me. However, the XL (14) was perfect. These are swim shorts with a liner. I would not use them as regular shorts as they would be too short for me. They do however cover my backside and provide more coverage than a regular bikini bottom. Middle-of-the-road coverage as the others looked too matronly on me. My advice is to try things on. Everyone's shape is so different and there is no way to know if items will work unless you try them on.
