There are caveats to this, as there are differences in seams in adult wear and children's.  For example, my Athleta girls pants do not frame my butt with stitching in the complimentary way that the women's wear does-- because it is designed for young girls who are in the early stages of pubescent growth.  Also, the cut around the arms for shirts are much tighter.  But, if you have very small shoulders and thin arms, this should not be a problem. I have more toned shoulders, so I chose not to get any of the girls wear for shirts as I could not work out comfortably in them.  Also, something to think about is bust size.

So, in summary, I think if you are at the smaller end of a women's small (sometimes 2, sometimes 4) you can fit into the girl's wear at a size XXL (16).  Honestly, I think if you tend to be a 6, then the girl's collection will be too small for you.  However, this could vary with what item you are interested in.  If you are interested in sweatpants or trackpants with a baggy, adjustable fit, then maybe a XXL could work for you.

Also something to take into account is height!  I am 5'2 and buy from the petite section of Athleta.  So the length of Athleta girls leggings works for me great!  I would recommend looking at the length of the pant and then comparing it with the length of an Athleta womens pant that fits you comfortably.
