That's why I said major and big difference between top 10 and top 25. Please try and keep up painfully obvious you are a Wisconsin grad right? lolz |
Iowa is a great, serious school in a great town. It has a high acceptance rate, but I think that's because most people don't realize that Iowa City is a lovely place to go to school, not because of any problem with the university. |
| Minnesota might be a good backup. |
Great college, great college town andI believe they are very straightforward with merit aid. You have x gpa and x ACT and you get $x. Plus, rolling admissions so you apply and get in early. |
| Find out what aspects of Michigan he is drawn to: the size, football culture, town? Then, use Naviance search engines or colleges guides (such as Princeton Review) to find other schools that meet those criteria (but are easier to get into). |
+1 |
Better for grad — UVA undergrad is meh. Unless you’re an English major. |
It doesn't suck. That is as ridiculous as the UVA boosters claiming it is better than every other school. It is a good school, even in STEM, but not very much like Michigan. |
| Wisconsin, Washington (Seattle), and UCSD were the OOS publics my STEM-oriented DC looked at (along with Michigan). |
That's really odd. They are both great schools with happy students, but otherwise not similar at all. Plus Rice is a lot harder to get into than Michigan. |
| Michigan State? |
| What is it about Michigan that he finds attractive? What does he want to study? |
UVA is Nowhere NEAR Michigan in terms of engineering or any other STEM fields. No comparison whatsoever. Michigan is much more selective and reputable than UVA, and has a higher percentage of OOS students |
Yall are so dumb USA News and World Report best public colleges idiots #3 and #4 https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public |
An insult coming from someone who uses “y’all” in his/her speech.
USNWR is a joke — rankings aren’t based on thorough studies of each school or outcomes of grads. The WSJ Times is much more informative. On their rankings, Michigan is listed at #28, Virginia at #51. https://www.timeshighereducation.com/rankings/united-states/2019#!/page/2/length/25/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats |
