1500 calories?

Anonymous
Yes, you can lose weight on 1500 calories a day if you are active. I used to eat around 1400-1500 calories a day and weighed around 125 at 5'3. It sucked and I was constantly counting my calories.

I'm 140 lbs now and considered overweight. I don't care anymore. Just be fat and happy.

I'm 5'9" and 190. Losing steadily but slowly at 1300 Cal / day, or more reliably at 1200. I'm not terribly active.

That sounds miserable. I like being active for the mental benefits, but it also affords me to eat 2000-2500/day at 5'2", to maintain.

do you have a metabolic issue? are you 4 feet tall? are you constantly losing weight? because if the answer to the above is no then you are in fact regularly eating more calories than 1500 and averaging more than 1500/week.

If I track religiously (weigh and count every calorie) i can lose eating 1700-1800. I use to thing I couldn't lose unless I ate 1400 or less, but the truth was when I ate that way I was more prone to overeating which meant I averaged more calories overall and thus never lost weight despite thinking I was cutting calories.

Yep. and these kinds of comments usually come from people who want to lose like two pounds a week. Which is really unsustainable

Yet, i seem to be losing weight -- I am very active. I was at 132 and now at 123, it's about a pound every 2 weeks. Will look great at my 40th High School reunion in July! I've bumped up my exercise this past year -- now 7 days a week, not 3 or 4. I may not lose, but I am definitely not gaining and still eating a very reasonable 1800 calories, loving my delicious vegetarian food, and never depriving myself. Dessert coming up in a minute

Sounds like you have good genetics to be thin.

Part of this depends on your body type. I am 5'9" and have to work out hard (cardio 3 times a week and lifting heavy 2 - 3 times a week) to eat 1500 calories and maintain in the 145 - 150 range. That is really thin for me though. I can maintain 165 at 1500 calories and walking about 5,000 - 6,000 steps a day. I am guessing you'll need to go lower than 1500 calories unless you are really working out daily. Try myfitnesspal or similar app to see what it suggest. Make sure you put in sedentary/nonactive for your activity level if you have a white collar desk job. "Active" is meant for those who do heavy labor for a living.

Not pp, but that's a load of bull.

I'd bet the "cheat day at 1500" people are eating quite a bit more than they think they are (and I get it, I made the same excuses when I was overweight), or would rather be a size 00 than find some moderate middle ground at like, a size 6.

What types of food/meals do you eat? What’s a typical day?

I'm 5'4'' and stay at 125-127 lbs. eating about 1500-1700 calories a day. I don't exercise at all. I know I should, but I don't have the motivation.

I am using the lose it app and it has me at about 1300 per day. When I add in exercise, it brings my allotted calories up. When you are talking about 1500 calories a day, are you including exercise?

In other words- is it "cheating" to allow myself 1600 calories if I run a few miles?

God I hate getting old. But better than the alternative...I guess?

I'm just curious. I know a lot of you can lose weight on 1200 calories a day. I do not think that is sustainable long term. So, if you lost a significant amount of weight on 1200 calories did you gain it back? How soon?
