So both are charter school boosters.
DCPS is doomed.

The DC chancellor has no jurisdiction over or responsibility for charter schools in DC.

Nothing in Alexander's career indicates she is a charter booster.

DC public schools are headed in a positive direction. It's an exciting time to be in the system. I've heard charter school types before dissing the DC public system, but I think they don't know what they're talking about. The DC public school system is on the rise.

Gentrification and no money for privates!

^^ THIS?! What is Bowser thinking? We don’t need another scandal with a chancellor. Dr. Alexander is the real deal.

That article mentions Wanda Legrand. She was in DCPS at some point as a Wilson hire. Is she still around?

Sounds like he'll fit right in.

Anyone have thoughts on why this would be released/leaked now? The article clearly states that the head of Indianapolis schools backed off the top LA job when his name got leaked, so why would someone drop his name again if the final choice is not Amanda Alexander?

I feel this whole thing is a sham. Just give it to Alexander already and stop with the wait!

Once you tell 15+ people, it is going to leak whether anyone wants it to.

Looks like Ferrebe's contract is up in Indianapolis soon -- so either he needs this position or being in the running elsewhere would help him get it extended in Indianapolis.

The school had 3 counselors ( former teachers) at one point while different subs were covering teacherless classrooms. That’s when the in boundary parents ( about 15 % of the overall population back then) pulled their kids out and enrolled them elsewhere. The school flourished after she left becoming 80% in boundary a few years later.

I second this. Her leadership at Ross was very questionable. Maybe she is more effective in admin outside of the school environment. Maybe. Her decisions were swift without a lot of foresight about the impact on the students and families.

She hasn't made any major changes yet has she? I think part of why she's appealing is that not much has changed. When she is permanent and starts shaking things up we may not like her as much as we do now.

Can you write more on her time at Ross? I didn’t see any old threads here that suggest that would be the case.

I also don’t know why you’d promote this sham of a Bunker Hill comment without proof. Bunker Hill started growing again because we suddenly got a guaranteed right to PK and then asked for more seats the year after. And Bunker’s got stiff charter competition too; I would not have considered it as an option without the guarantee at PK.

The Post said she's made 2 significant deputy hires.

As a teacher, I haven't noticed any major changes. So the hires may also be laying low for now.
