Will the council approve him after the last debacle?

Grosso is already hinting that this isn't a done deal. Hearing will be in January. Mandy better hang tight.

Ferebee is essentially Antwan 2.0. Who was basically the Anti-Kaya. Coincidence?
+young black man (EMOC and such), won't draw attention from Muriel
+outsider, no personal connections or influence with local deep pockets
+mayoral control novice, won't question crazy governance model
+charter friendly, but this ain't Indy. Charter sector more independent and powerful
+parent of a high school student. Said his kid will go to neighborhood school or (DCPS) lottery. Sorry Walls and Ellington

In summary, young, black and unaccomplished.

Yess, mission accomplished.

I wouldn’t say he is unaccomplished. At least from the Indiana newspaper articles I read, he got more funding in place for the schools.

That means nothing.

What matters is, how much did the overall results improve under his tenure? What reforms did he implement to help things get better for the next 5-10 years?

Really? More money to schools means nothing? How do you think reforms work? The funding has to be in place first. Otherwise you get empty promises.

Indianapolis is not DC. The community doesn’t have as much money to toss around as DC does.

Lady, on a per capita basis DCPS already has money that any other comparable system.

We don't need more money. We need to stop flushing it down the toilet.

I think money needs to go to students, teachers, and infrastructure. NOT OSSE!! I am currently battling OSSE over an IT glitch that is causing problems for my kid. What a nightmare! They may have the dumbest people I have ever encountered working there.

OSSE is over grown and bloated. Why do they need 400 employees? Let’s remember that before Fenty there was no OSSE and now they have 400+ people working there.

Citation? I find 400 FTEs hard to imagine.

Hard to imagine?

There must be thousands of people in DC government doing who knows what.

OSSE at least have something to do

Really? Have you ever gone there to see about why your teaching license hasn't been processed? Good luck finding anyone. And the reason you will find yourse appearing in person is because no one ever answers the phone!

And because their new electronic system is so glitchy, also unlike most states why aren't teacher's licensed and registered online? It's a long wait each time, staff at front desk thought always pleasant so that's a plus : )

NP. There are about 7 pages with about 50 employees on each page. https://dchr.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dchr/publication/attachments/public_body_employee_information_09302018.pdf

I'd love to know how the number of staff at OSSE compares to Vermont, which has roughly the same number of residents.

Online directory for the Vermont Agency of Education lists 140 names:

And they (VT) have roughly the same statutory responsibility, minus responsibility for transportation for students with disabilities that OSSE has.

But they are white and subject to historic privilege.

Not a fair comparison.
