Fun times, PP, fun times! Sounds like they did a great bait and switch. But look at the bright side - at least it won't be vegan lasagna. I like the idea of a frozen turkey dinner for next year.

My FIL loves creamed onions. I have made them every year, for him. He is no longer with us, and I didn't make them. No one will miss them. Him, yes, but not the onions!

My DH's family sometimes makes lasagna, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole because those are the thanksgiving foods they like. It's...odd. They exhibit some disordered eating in several different ways, so I get it. But man is it a bummer.

My dad's family was italian/polish and would have two Thanksgiving meals in a row where we switched out the table. First was traditional thanksgiving foods. 2nd was the ethnic food fest lasagna, salad, bread, baked ziti, kielbasa, pierogi, etc... It was incredible and I have very find memories of it as a child. When we get together with them now - they are mostly elderly but still cook well - it is traditional without the 2nd course.

I'd actually be ok with a GOOD lasagna/antipasto tray/lots of breads spread with traditional thanksgiving deserts. I think I could do that once in a while if the Christmas meal was roast chicken and more traditional thanksgiving foods.

You are confusing East Tennessee and northeastern Tennessee. I lived in Knoxville while in grad school and spent plenty of time in the Smoky Mountains. This is one of FIL’s friends hunting cabins in the woods with no mountains, no trails, no anything.
