| Agree with all the PPs that John Vihstadt is by far the better choice for all the reasons stated. And I'm a Democrat through and through! I voted early for Vihstadt and wrote in Maura McMahon for School Board. The latter is a protest vote, but I really hope I voted for the winner in Vihstadt. |
| OP, since you posted in the schools forum, I’m presuming you want to o ow which candidate is better for APS. Arlington Dems at the county level could not care less about our schools if they tried. Vihstadt is the choice. |
How about not concentrating AH in SA? I guess we're not allowed to complain about overcrowded schools because it goes against the Blue Wave's narrative. |
Grow up. "Affordable" is a euphemism for "subsidized", which means that someone else is paying for it. Concentrating subsidized housing into narrow geographic areas, as a policy, has a long, well-documented history of failure. Ihaven't seen a single person on this board call for eviction. Only that every neighborhood should have to share the burden, and that this would be better for everyone involved. |
| I think Vihstadt is the better choice for Arlington County all around, including on schools. I think he will win a majority pretty easily amount people who pay attention to local issues and elections. The problem is that a lot of residents who are younger and more transient and not invested in the county will vote all D today. The question is how many. |
Exact same here, PP, right down to the write-in. |
| I'm voting Vihstadt. Normally I vote Dem across the board, but I think he's done a good job. Plus we've seen on a national scale how unhealthy things can get when all the power is held by one party. The Arlington county board and school board shouldn't be all Dem or it gets away with doing stupid stuff. We need at least one non-dem to balance things out a bit. |
| Vihstadt is the former president of the Yorktown PTA and his wife is a former president of the Swanson PTA. He's served on the Arlington CCPTA (county council of PTAs) and was awarded "Honorary Citizen of the Year" by APS in 2008. He votes with his Democratic colleagues on almost every issue, except on vanity projects like the $80M pool that they are building in Crystal City. When JV voted against the pool, he did it because Arlington is facing a budget crunch and he thought we should be spending whatever resources we have on core services like school construction and Metro. In debates, Matt DeF has expressed support for the pool project but has expressed skepticism that we really need a 4th high school. In other words, he is following the ACDC narrative so they will help him get elected. I'm a Democrat, but the way the ACDC tries to act like a shadow government in Arlington is horrendous. |
| +1 |
I also wrote-in Maura! That's three votes for her. |

Vihstadt. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
He'd done a great job as a voice of moderation regarding spending, which we tend to do too much of in Arlington, and not always in a sensible way. Big fan of the Shirlington Dog Park. |
It would have been nice if BK had some real competition. |
| So far MdF is in the lead, courtesy of just about everyone but NW. |
Looks like it's probably over for JV. That is really too bad. |
| Heartbreaking. |
