that is not reported on their website. Under 2 is a priority group. Why would they not vaccinate this group. just trying to clarify before I traipse my 16 month old up there and get turned away. |
|
Your child will be turned away. Arlington is not providing injected vaccines to children under 36 months at this time, and your child must be 24 months and no underlying risk factors to get the nasal.
I was one of the ones to be turned away with a 2 year old. Save yourself the trip and just try to hit up a DC clinic, which is doing young children. |

Fairfax County will be vaccinating kids under 3 on Saturday:

I went to both Arlington and Alexandria (Casey Clinic) yesterday. Alexandria at 2pm had zero wait and I was able to get the vaccine even though I'm not in a priority group. Got on the waiting list at Arlington for the 2 and under vaccine. Has anyone had any luck vaccinating their child under 2 ??

They want to, but they don't have proper vaccine for the under two crowd. The adult regular injectable version cannot be used and they are too young for the Flumist. They are trying to get their hands on some. Here is where they are posting the schedule and what they can/cannot do. I hope that helps. http://arlingtonva.us/portals/topics/TopicsPandemicFlu.aspx |
| I am so slow here- are they only doing Flu Mist in Arlington? |
|
what do you mean you got it even though you are not in the priority group? You are not pregnant or otherwise "at risk" and you got it anyway?
I think you are asking for some bad Karma. I would not do that even if I could. |
| Yes, the DC clinics are vaccinated children under 2. |
| Does anyone know if you have to be a Fairfax resident to attend Saturday's Fairfax clinic? |

"what do you mean you got it even though you are not in the priority group? You are not pregnant or otherwise "at risk" and you got it anyway?
I think you are asking for some bad Karma. I would not do that even if I could. " I went to Alexandria to check on the vaccine under 2 and they said they didn't have it but would be happy to give me the vaccination.. why would I not get it? In a sense I'm only protecting my child further.. bad karma? I would totally disagree and recommend any parent whose child can't receive the vaccine yet to get it as well.. which is why I posted the info. |
You do not have to be a Fairfax resident. |
I called the number for the Casey Clinic today and got connected to the Alexandria Health Department. Recording said no vaccine available at the moment and will be posted when it is. Is the Casey Clinic open today? I have a child with asthma and I would like to get myself vaccinated so I don't expose him to the H1N1. |
Why would you not get it? Because there is not enough to go around and those who the CDC has determined are at risk are supposed to get it first. Parents of babies under 6 months are in the risk group. YOU are not. There is not enough for all of those in the risk group, so those not in the risk group should abstain, even if a poor underpaid health care worker at a city clinic offers it to you to quiet your moaning about having headed to the wrong clinic with your under-two year old. |
I dialed 703-519-5979 yesterday and got through. Although I think the phone system/communication is not in very good order. I believe the clinic is open all week.. If your not too far away I would just drive there.. |
I got there at noon and was out by 1. They are vaccinating everyone - I am not in the high risk group and I got the shot. As I left the line was getting longer though. I would try later in the afternoon once everyone goes back to work. |
