In polite society, we speak only well of the dead. It has always been this way. |
I understand what you mean OP. Because it’s anonymous, I’ll even say that bringing in Sarah Palin was maybe not the catalyst but a catalyst for how we got here today.
However, he did a lot of good things in his life, and he was a war hero. He suffered tremendously for our country. I think if he had done far more bad than good, it would be more okay to show your disdain for the glorification he’s receiving now. But he did a lot of good too. The polite thing to do is focus on the good now. If mentioning the bad stuff would change anything, then it would be worth doing. It doesn’t though, somwhy not be polite and respectful? If nothing else, it puts Democrats in a bad light if they start crapping on McCain before he’s even buried. This should be an easy issue to go high on. |
I feel the same way about the Regean hagiography. |
He’s a really rich and privileged man who had a bad temper.
His death is sad for friends and family and is being used as a political tool. McCain himself has suffered and been very ill for a long time before he died, yet he “tweeted” regularly and even 4/5 days ago. That wasn’t McCain. McCain hasn’t been McCain for many months. But the eternal sea of politics rolls on. He will be a footnote soon enough. Then on to the next. |
OP, I have had to restrain myself with regard to the adulation being accorded to him out of a sense of respect that one does not speak ill of the dead.
I did not vote for him in 2008 and have no regrets. |
Nothing is warranted for the conman! He gets what he dishes out! |
Romney's dog disagrees. |
Who says America is a polite society anymore? We are in the post polite America where politeness is called "being a cuck" and being rude and racist is celebrated as "Anti Politically Correct". Welcome to the new Trumpian America! |
Curious, OP, were you just as disgusted about Ted Kennedy's adulation when he died? |
OP, of all the disgusting things going on in US politics today, this is your beef? |
Silverspoon a-hole who was wholly unqualified to be flying the planes he crashed. He was being groomed from a young age to be potus, including checking the boxes in the war.
Warmongerer who dragged us into a 20 year (and never ending) ME war. What's the total so far, $5 trillion from the treasury, 6,000 American deaths, 60,000 Americans wounded, 100s of thousands of dead Arabs? Somehow worth $40M from being a public servant. Sorry, not a great guy. |
OP is just a Trump supporter trying to lend legitimacy to the deplorable non-presidential response from the squatter in the WH. |
I am just keeping my mouth shut for now. But, yeah, Sarah Palin was definitely unforgivable in my book.
I did NOT engage in the lovefest on Facebook yesterday - I generally don't when famous people die. Just like the 9/11 remembrances every year, it feels very forced and expected. Not a fan of those types of shows of support or whatever. |
Certainly within the first two days of his passing! I thought the moderator had a policy against criticizing those who recently died. |
Hello everyone, he was a Republican. Not a Democrat.
So maybe he didn't align with your values and he certainly did have a reputation for being crabby. And sure he made some shitty choices (who the F hasn't?? Who is perfect?), but he didn't toe the line, he was candid, he was courageous, he was tough and that is what people are remembering and celebrating. It's really poor taste to come on here and speak ill of him, although I'm sure he'd have a laugh at it and throw a fun insult back at you! |
