first it is effect, affect is a verb, I didn't mean dystonia literally. I meant there will certainly be more complications of the shot as more people receive it and therefore more stories about those adverse effects. |
Also, how many of these people already had the flu shot? I once got a NASTY flu, it was horrible. I had the flu shot as well. Apparantly, the strains they were predicting that year, were not the strains that actually made the rounds. THis is why I no longer get the flu shot. I will get H1N1 because it is targeting something that is real. |
Very true. There is no guarantee that just because you've had a seasonal flu shot, you won't get the flu. |
Nope, but "Um nice try." Bitch. |
Actually, according to Dr. Sears the 36K number is bogus. He says that flu deaths are lumped in with pneumonia deaths, so all we really know is that 36K people died from flu OR pneumonia. He said there is no available stat that breaks it out. |
Um, "Wow" PP, you are mean. |
Are flu deaths lumped in with ALL pneumonia deaths? Or are they just lumping together individuals who died directly from flu with those who died of pneumonia *subsequent* to having the flu? Because if it's the later, I see no problem putting those deaths in one bin. If someone dies from pneumonia they caught because their lungs were decimated by the flu, I still blame the flu for the death. |
Yes - they are lumped together because pneumonia is usually the result of complications from the flu. If it is my child who died, don't think I'd care if it was pneumonia caused by flu or flu, if I can help prevent it from a shot or reduce chances of this happening from a shot, I will. I also think Dr. Sears has very limited credibility and I'm choosing to take advice from my pediatrician, who actually knows my child, not from the bargain bin at Borders. |
How about advice from the CDC, which says that 99% of flu in our areas is H1N1 so don't bother getting regular flu shots this year? Has your pediatrician not heard the news? |
Wow, CDC is advising people not to bother with the regular flu shot? This is totally news to me! Please point out where you read this, PP. |
Mo. co. schools sent home flyers saying they were canceling their flu shots this year per the cdc's advice. |
And Arlington County schools are planning to offer H1N1 in elementary schools. |
vaccinations, that is. Not the actual H1N1 flu, though I'm sure you can get that in Arlington County schools, too. |
Yes, I'd like to see a site too? |
Not according to this site: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/ first paragraph, top left. |
