DP, but why would it surprise you if people on DCUM know Chris Eisgruber and Lori Martin? |
We are a prep school family and consider it a peer. Our high EQ kid thinks it's better ![]() |
No, actually hotshot, sfs has an excellent China studies program and sends a couple kids each year to u of Chicago for Asian studies and Chinese degrees. And if you knew anything about it, you’d know exactly what kids partake in it at sfs and that most are not Asian. |
Id just follow that up by saying the u of Chicago student I studied abroad with in Asia back in 1999 and 2000 were a lot of fun. Not like this insecure PP harping about the school. My u of chi coworkers are a lot more condenser and subtle as well. No complexes. We all know it’s a tough school, curves down, solid academics, good career services, high grad school hit rate. |
Sorry. It didn't occur to me that you meant that. |
STA has sent 5 plus a year to Chicago for the last few years. It’s definitely hot with those kids. |
Athletes, I think. |
Seems there was a long thread on Chicago recently. Chicago isn't worth it.

Definitely not up there with HYPS. Not bad; but not arrived yet. By Payscale ranking, U of Chicago is in the class with following schools: Similar Schools Northwestern University University of Notre Dame Case Western Reserve University Washington University In St. Louis Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) University of Rochester Cornell University Johns Hopkins University Georgetown University George Washington University (GWU) |
Predominant on this list are schools where grads typically go directly to grad schools. Wouldn't that affect the median salary number and thus the ranking?
Service academies are highest yet most wouldn't disagree that as a whole top earnings later experiemce a relative drop. IMO this payscale ranking isn't relevant as to how schools stack up for prep students or whether they're worth it once taking advanced education into consideration. |
The kids attending UChicago now are a completely different cohort from UChicago kids of 15-20 years ago. Chicago's acceptance rate this year is 7.2% behind HYPSM which range from 4.5-6.5% but harder to get into than the other Ivys and competitors like Duke. |
Not sure of the methodology. I would guess your analysis applies to similarly ranking school as well. Many of them move on to grad schools as well. e.g., Cornell, JHU. Yet, they are all ranked in the same cluster. To test your hypothesis, simply run Payscale for HYPS schools. I am guessing their salary number are significantly higher than Chicago's. |
Heard UCLA acceptance rate this year is around 5%, lower than Chicago's. Acceptance rate is not all there is. That's more of a PR function. |
How does Payscale get their data and what quality? And how do colleges or the govt know how much each college's grads make? |
Per the Payscale description, the data is self-reported. |
