Umm, congratulations, I guess

Exactly. I cannot see why you brag about not knowing about your kids school. You probably also have no clue about the curriculum or the specials or the grading policy and yet when people complain, I bet you blindly defend your public school because to really look into what is going on is too much work. You are the parent that crappy teachers love. |
Bet your mom had no idea how much recess you had. |
|
Here's a little secret:
Recess varies. On a very cold day, I can promise you that it is much shorter than on a very beautiful day. Sometimes, it takes longer to get the kids out the door. Sometimes, the other class is late clearing the playground. There are lots of variables. |
Just play outside before and after school. Recess is such a waste of time and resources. |
Sorry, you lose. I am a 3d generation focused parent. My mom and dad were involved, and so were my grandparents. I guess yours weren't. I guess that explains the many generations of college educated people in my family. The doctors and lawyers and teachers and engineers. Being blasé about your kid's school is NOT a mark of a good parent. |
All wrong. |
Our school has recess after lunch. Are kids taking too long to finish lunch? Why is it taking too long to get them outside? |
+1. I think one recess is enough. Kids can play at SACC before and after school. Why do they need more recess during the school day? I prefer that they learn at school and play outside of school. |
LOL! Defensive? |
OR. She certainly did not! She had a career and other interests. It didn't stop my brother and me from going to an Ivy and a top-10 school. I don't think I was bragging, just remarking that I never would have thought to worry about how much recess my kids get. I pay attention to their curricula to the extent that I help out with homework. How it compares to other curricula is something I'm not really concerned about. |
Adults get two breaks+lunch in a workday. But kids shouldn't get recess? |
Of course, kids should get recess. And, they do. But, they are not going to implode if they miss a recess here and there. I was a teacher and I tried to get my kids out for a short break in the afternoon. But, I taught in a place with a nasty climate and there were periods when we hardly were able to go outside. Indoor recess is not the same thing. Most classes have opportunities for little breaks throughout the day. Students get gym twice a week, they have art class, music, etc. |
And, we have a winner! Most absurd comment for the week. |
| LCPS elementary teacher, here. In South Riding. We have 15 minutes for recess. I make damn sure my students get about twice that, using whatever creativity I need to. |
