| We renewed our kids passports on 2/8 and used the expedited service. We had the new passports in hand on 2/17. |
| I thought about L st and when I called they did you have to be leaving within 2 weeks so that is why we went to our post office. I just realized I couldn’t resubmit in person because we had to include his original birth certificate with his application. They would need that to process. I’ll try calling our congressional rep. Not to sound too stupid but how do I find out who our congressional rep is in dc? |
| Is it Elenor Holmes Norton? Sorry, I have too much on my mind. |
| Yes |
That is me, I am the poster. A few years ago we had an odd passport emergency due to a death in the family, we called our congressional rep’s DC office, and asked to speak with the staffer who handles passport issues for constituent services. We explained our situation, the staffer got us into the diplomat passport office above the regular one on 19th street where we got a passport in one hour that same afternoon and we flew out that night. Congressional reps have staffers who specialize in passport issues, I never knew until I had an emergency and they were great. Since then I’ve recommended this approach to several friends who have also had similar good service. Call the office first thing Monday. BTW you do not need to have the original birth certificate for a child’s passport, just a certified copy. I renewed my child’s last month (and a renewal for a child is the same as getting one for the first time, same paperwork) and it couldn’t have changed in the last 4 weeks. My children were born in DC, I just ordered several certified copies. But I have never submitted the original I got from the hospital. |
This. |
| Where do I get certified copies of the birth certificate? I submitted the original. I feel so stupid right now |
What state do you live in? In MD, you can get a same day, certified copy at most health departments, or at the vital records office in Baltimore. We had the same issue with a last min trip and our infant didn't have his passport yet. I got a passport appointment (because travel was within 2 weeks) and went to get a certified copy of his birth certificate because I didn't want to send away the original (I was paranoid). We waited all day for the passport appointment and then came back 3 days later to pick it up. |
| Where do I get one in dc? |
Where was the child born? |
|
In dc it’s a vital record, you have to go to dept of health in person if you need it ASAP. OTherwise there are 3rd party vendors that can get it for a fee like vitalchek

NP here, but yes, it totally makes me feel better to be a bitch when I know I'm right. |
There is no difference between a certified copy and the original, at least not in Virginia. They are $12 each and you can have as many as you want. |
This is very googleable for any jurisdiction in the country. |
The office on N Capitol st, close to union station. You can get one while you wait - usually less than an hour. I think it's called office of vital records. |
