Passport issue! Help!

Anonymous
We took my son to get his first passport 3 weeks ago. Handed in all the correct documents, etc. we leave for our trip in about 2 weeks and his passport has not arrived. We paid for expedited service and when I checked the status it still says it’s being processed. I’m starting to panic like we won’t get it in time. Expedited services said 2-3 weeks door to door. The person I talked to when I called couldn’t give me any info as to when we will have it. Anyone have suggestions what to do?

2 weeks is still a long time.

First thing to do is stop panicking. It is highly likely you will see it this week.

But if it makes you feel better, wait a couple days and then try calling again. Hopefully you reach someone more helpful.

Plan ahead better next time.

Incredibly unhelpful. Does it make you feel better to be a bitch?

Presumably OP knew about this trip for awhile yet needed to get an expedited passport. Blame only lies with OP.

I agree. I wouldn't have even booked an international trip, if I did not have a valid passport.

There's nothing you can do OP, you sit an hope it comes in the mail before your trip. Plan ahead better.

OP. Make an appt for a week from now just in case it doesn’t come. My friend got hers the same day by making an appt. Not sure how the fact that you have already submitted for one would impact getting another, but it’s probably good to have an in person meeting. And my guess is that you will get it in the next couple of days. Good luck!

They say, "approximately two weeks." You can't plan around something like that when it's "approximately." If somehow they lost even one item in your passport package, they'd write to you asking for a copy of that document, which would delay even further. You're dealing with the gov't here. Slooooooowwwww.

That said, I didn't get expedited and mine came within 2 weeks. At the same time I applied for my renewal and my dd's renewal, for the hell of it, I paid extra for hers to be expedited just to see whose would arrive first. They arrived the same day. I think yours will arrive on time.

Worst case scenario go to passport office pay expedited fee and get same day passport.

Call your comgressional reps office and speak to someone in constituent services. These are staffers who regularly work with passport issues. Call first thing Monday,

Do not panic. Odds are it will arrive in the next few days.

Last year, they screwed up mine and I was down at the passport office all day just three days before we were supposed to depart. I spoke with several people there who needed their passports immediately, including 1) a man whose family had left that morning for Mexico but his was refused at the airport for some reason and he was hoping to fly down the next day, and 2) a woman there with her son who was supposed to go to university abroad the next day. We all sweated it out and everything worked out. If I were in your position and it did not arrive at one week out, I would go down to the DC passport office, but be prepared to wait and wait and wait.

The good part is that this is not the peak season of the year. I wish you luck.

OP here... the trip was unexpected. We knew only 5 weeks out we were going. Mother in law having major surgery. I made a passport appointment as soon as we found out we were going. Which passport office in DC can do same day passports? Didn’t know they still did that.

It's around 19th and L St. NW, give or take. They can do a same day passport if you already have tickets leaving within X time (2 weeks, I think).

But first, call back the passport line at State to try to get them to pin down where your passport is in the process. They're probably backed up because of spring breakers.

The poster who recommended you call you Congressional rep is providing good advice. They will find out the exact status for you and move it along if needed.
