| Hurting for the kid on College Confidential with a 4.0 and 1400 SATs denied Tech and U Va. I know, plenty of options should be available, but it’s still a hard punch. |
UVA results are out already? |
If you try for engineering, you’d better have the goods. |
URM? |
Early action I'm guessing. |
Me too! Those are really low numbers. |
| If you go here, to CollegeConfidential, the results posted by parents and students start about page 27. https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/virginia-tech/2048435-virginia-tech-regular-decision-thread-p27.html |
| I’ve seen some pretty surprising rejections of high stats students on college confidential. Kids you would assume would be admitted to VA Tech and UVA. Hope they get in somewhere even better! |
Me too. I'm one of the first posters whose son got 650 math and 740 verbal. His ACT was 33. I honestly don't know his exact GPA...probably slightly lower than 3.2 |
| Remember: Not all GPAs are the same. A 4.0 at a high school with grade inflation will not impress the admissions staff. Your GPA is compared against others from your school. |
| I graduated from VT ~10 years ago. I don’t think I would have been admitted these days from my FCPS HS. Honestly, I don’t think I ever worried about getting in. I really feel for kids today. |
| DD got in, school of engineering. She also got into UVA school of engineering. |
| 1270 SAT, 3.95 WGPA, NOVA HS, waitlisted College of Liberal Arts |
Course rigor matters a lot too. A 3.5 with a full IB diploma or a ton of AP classes can beat a 4.0 of regular level classes. |
