This is nothing new. There’s just message boards now to discuss periods versus previous generations where most females never discussed their periods openly.

It has trended earlier over the years though. Estrogen-like chemicals in our environment. Probably different nutrition as well - more body fat leads to earlier periods.

we are facing similar issues and the answer is you can't know unless you have a hand xray done and then can determine the bone growth age and if there is any room for growth. There might be and there might not be. Getting her period is more of general guidance thing.

Is it hand xray or foot, or either? My DC got a foot xray about 2 years ago due to some pain in the foot, and the Dr said the bone growth was about a year to year and half behind. DC is a bit below average and hasn't hit puberty yet. DC is 12.

I got my period at 11 when I was 4'11. I grew another 3 inches over the next three years. Reached my final height of 5'2" at 14.

My parents are short (5'4" and 5'6") and until my big growth spurt leading up to my period and after, I was TINY. 5'2" was taller than they expected based on my childhood size.

Wow, it’s very unusual for girls to grow after age 18 (especially if their period started years earlier) - that’s more common in boys. Most girls have their growth spurt before their period, then grow up to a couple inches afterward - that’s the most common scenarios, but as you can see here, some girls will grow much later than that, and sometimes it’s quite a lot. There’s just no way to predict.

These large amounts of growth after menarche are not the norm though. The average is just a couple of inches at a slow rate.

Based on what? I would like to see the trending of the recent data. Because children are starting puberty earlier. Does that mean people are getting shorter? Not likely. It also varies on ethnicity.

Maybe with girls getting their periods younger that is changing?
