Growing After Period

DD recently got her period. She is 13 and 4'10. I am 5'2 and DH is 5'7. Is she going to grow much taller or will she be about this height? She hates being so short. She had her growth spurt but and has always been on the short end. Did you guys or DDs grow much after your periods?

MIL is 5'1 (got period at 10 - rather early then) and my mom is 5'4 (got period at 14)

Girls generally grow for about two more years after getting their periods. But that growth is usually not as rapid as the growth spurt leading up to getting their period.

I grew for about 3-4 years after getting my period (so during college because i got my period really late). I was under 5’ when I got my period and ended up at 5’3”

I got my period at 10 at that time I was 5"3" I grew until my freshman year of college. My adult height is 5'6".5

So yes she can grow some more, but i think you need to help her embrace her height.

My daughter got hers at 11, she's 14 and a half, and she's only 5'. She's hoping she will grow a couple of more inches. Her dad is only 5' 8", and I'm only 5'3", so I'm not sure what her chances are. Her older brother is 6'3", her second oldest brother is 5'6", and the next oldest is 5'10". There's a great difference in height in our family. I think the girls got shafted.

I was 5’1 when I got my period at 11. Now I’m 5’2 as an adult.

I got my period at 13 or 14 and grew until I was 16. Had an x-ray on my leg (injury) and they told me my growth plates were closed. I was very disappointed. Ended up being 5'6" as an adult.

This is nothing new. There’s just message boards now to discuss periods versus previous generations where most females never discussed their periods openly.

I never grew again. I was 5'1 at 11 and stopped there. Your husband is very short. Are his parents short as well? My dad was 5'10 and my mom 5'5.

Honestly, being petite hasn't been hard as a girl. All of my friends seem to be my same height, I never had to worry about dating a guy shorter than me and men still liked me. I learned quickly to stand up for myself at work and in meetings because short women do get passed over. Petite isn't the worst thing in the world.

I was 11 and a year younger than most. I felt like 75% of my class had it by 12.

I got my period at 10 and added my last 1/2” of height at 19.
