Raynaud's doesn't make you any more likely to die from hypothermia just fyi.

Yes, it does. It closes blood vessels.

I know there was snow and everything, but it's really not that cold. I'm worried there is more to this story. Ugh, poor kid and poor family.

It diesn’t have To be freezing to die of hypothermia. I think you can die at 45 degrees for a certain number of hours.

Yes, but assuming someone was relatively appropriately dressed -- maybe jeans and a sweatshirt -- a young healthy person should be OK. But, maybe he got kicked out of his house in PJs, or had some drug/alcohol involvement, or was injured and couldn't move. I just think there is more going on than being outside.

No. Overnight (7-8 hours) last night (30s), a healthy person in a sweatshirt and jeans wouldn’t be ok.

Np. There has to be more information. A healthy person would do things to stay warm and generate body heat. Incapacitated, via alcohol or something else, or some other added cause of death. Sad no matter how you look at it, however.

Or a teen who snuck out after curfew and is hiding in the backyard might try to stay still to avoid making noise and getting caught. Hypothermia makes you feel sleepy and warm. People actually shed clothes sometimes!

Frostbite maybe, but hypothermia is your body temperature dropping suddenly:

In extremities. Not the core. Core body temp is what kills you.

The op's son mentioned that another student died.

Devastating. What happened??

Alcohol plus tripping and falling seems to be the operating theory on social media, with the alcohol part presumed certain and the falling a guess. It's very uneven, heavily wooded terrain near where the body was reportedly found.

My friend used to live right there.
Very wealthy area. Heartbreaking.

It's heartbreaking because it's a very wealthy area? Ok then.

teen was a senior at Whitman according fox5 reporter
Anonymous
I live in the area. Late last night this was posted on our neighborhood email list:

"my son XXX has been missing since last night in the Bethesda
area. He was last seen at 7/11 near glen echo. He was wearing long khaki
pants, a red flannel over a shirt and possibly creme colored polo shoes. He
has facial hair. His hair is brown. Please notify me if you see him. Thank
you."

A follow up-post mentions he's 17 years old. It's likely the same person that police are reporting about. Second death to hit the Whitman community in the last couple weeks. Very sad.
