The Bachelorette Makes Her Choice ...

Rachel literally said "gimme that ring!" right after Bryan proposed. Maybe it was editing, but my takeaway was that the proposal was more important than the marriage. The breakup with Peter was very raw and real and painful to watch.

I really respected her until last night, too, but she was a different person on the finale/ATFR. Just unnecessarily mean and cold to Peter. It was obviously a defense mechanism but I didn't think she handled it well when Peter was obviously hurting.

Gross, I noticed that too. I am (sad to say, not my proudest moment) a long-time viewer of the show and I always pay attention to how much they look at the ring. They usually don't notice it at all right away. She was just gross.

She did not come off well AT ALL last night.

Maybe she wanted Bryan all along (as she's claiming) but her insistence on a proposal with Peter was totally ridiculous given that most of the Bachelor/Bachelorette relationships fail. If this was the story line that the producers were insisting that she play, shame on her for going along with it as Peter was clearly rattled (unless he's a great actor). She came across as such a smart, strong woman that if she really did love Peter, she could have done what she wanted and ended up engaged on their own timeline -- not the show's. Very disappointing overall and I wonder how Bryan (and his mother, lol) feel after watching last night.

I was thinking this too, except I think that the first Bachelorette that is a POC not getting what everyone else gets at the end of this just sits badly with me. If Peter stays away from all things Bachelor going forward I think we will know that he was genuinely rattled/hurt and got carried away into something he probably shouldn't have started, I mean this is not a new show. Its sad because that seemed really genuine between them, it was almost painful to watch.

I think Rachel was still a little pissed at him when she watched the show back live and realized that the way it came across was that he sort of took away her choice, even though she kind of was the one that finished it when she said I don't want to pressure you to propose if that's not coming from you and walked away. Because it really did look like he only had 1 choice then, not that she made that decision between 2, even though she kind of did, just a day early. I don;t really blame her, it must be awkward to have to watch it with an audience and feel really wide open and vulnerable, so she went into sort of "i'm living my best life, this isn't for you but I wish you the best" mode, but in a really sort of defensive way.

Totally agree with this. Im a POC and I would be cognizant of being the first bachelorette in the history not to get a proposal. I also agree that time will tell With Peter. If he goes on to being the next bachelor then I think it confirms his reasons for not proposing. I could not tell if he was sincerely sad or acting at points. Although the fact that he basically asked her if she could assure him she would pick him did lean in favor of he legit was scared and not making up an excuse to get her to eliminate him.

I'm confused. She did get a proposal ... from Bryan? And she TOLD Peter to leave if he wasn't ready to offer a proposal - and he did. So what on earth does race have to do with that?

Sigh. Assuming this is a legit question and not the "what's race got to do with it!" then the point PPs were making is that Rachel being the first POC and not wanting to be the first not to get a proposal is another reason why she would not have picked Peter. Doesn't have anything to do with Bryan.

Agree. And she and Bryan kept yelling something about showing off the ring. Then she was so cold to Peter, who was obviously hurting.

She seemed so sensible and charming before. Last night she came across as overcompensating, insecure, and even a little bitter.

I totally didn't get that (it was a legit question). Good point.

No one who goes on this show is sensible and charming. It is for desperate, attention-seekers.

Did anyone watch Desiree's season? I didn't think she and her pick (can't even remember his name) would last 5 minutes after the way she cried over Brooks leaving, but now they're married with a child. Maybe being sloppy seconds will work out for Bryan too?

I am confused. I feel like they spoiled it by talking about it with her and bringing out the guys during it. I didn't get that she and Peter broke up. CH said it was a breakup which meant she picked Bryan, but they never showed Peter leaving, them saying goodbye, and he didn't show up in a limo and say he wanted to keep dating her. He offered to propose to not lose her and she didn't want him to, but he could have still proposed to make her happy. It seemed like it was still up in the air. That conversation seemed more like love than what I've seen between her and Bryan. She and Peter just never could solve their differences and were in a power struggle. I think what she and Bryan has is lust. I hope Peter finds love. She was kind of a jerk to him, and she mispoke saying she doesn't deny she didn't care for Peter. That means she doesn't care for Peter. She meant to say she doesn't deny she did care for Peter. Is that why he felt attacked or was it when she got attitude saying she's living her best life?

Yeah, she only went along with Chris (?) because she couldn't get Brooks.

Yes that was my impression as well! Des was terrible to me boring and dumb as rocks.

Aww I liked her, she seemed like a sweet girl. I hope it was just editing that made her look so silly.

Agree. Her and Bryan seemed to only have a physical connection that seemed to fade over the course of the show. Peter definitely strikes me as someone that is used to calling all the shots in his relationships. I think she was just mad that the producers kind of stole her fairy tale from her by editing the show to make the proposal super anticlimactic. The thing to keep in mind is that a ton of the final four every season are phony. Like in Nick's season all the other girls hated Vanessa for being super phony, yet they edited that out (including editing out a conflict she supposedly had with Rachel...according to reality Steve). But they've kept in every mean thing anyone has said about Bryan being fake and even included Peter saying he has fake cheeks haha. Not to say that Bryan isn't phony but they made her whole finale about Peter. So she was probably pissed.

I don't know that Bryan cares that he's sloppy seconds because he's so fake, I can only imagine he's doing this to raise his profile. His instagram post about it was so incredibly cheesy and over the top, it's ridiculous. He is clearly playing and winning. I doubt they will last. You can only handle so much fake for so long.

She obviously wanted a man who knows what he wants, but Bryan would be more likely to cheat on her than Peter. Peter would think about his actions first. Bryan kissed her on the first night before he even knew her. He also acted like he was entitled to the fantasy suite. I wanted to see Peter crying in a limo. Why was he there for days after seeing her eyelashes on the floor? That obviously was not the final goodbye. At what point did he actually leave and whose decision was it? And if he would have proposed, would she have chosen him over Bryan? So many unanswered questions. As soon as she and Bryan disagree on something, there will be problems.

Can we talk about her eyelashes though? I understand for special occasions, but man I don't know how she wore those every day.
