S/O: Costco stories

Costco is actually a great place. Bright open a cheerful as compared to BJ's. Good deals and some absolutely great food items. Worst thing is when they eliminate one of your favorites. They will spoil you on something do out of this world and then just take it away. The worst for me was an Asian soup, called the company that makes it and they said they have an exclusive contract with Costco but suddenly Costco would only sell it in California. I have seriously considered buying it bootleg from an Asian reseller in California that ships frozen goods. It would be $20 a bowl though and that just makes me sad. It was the best thing ever. I ate it every single day for two years until it just disappeared.

Yeah, I can't find my favorite crackers anymore.

My boss severely over bought hot dog and hamburger buns for her son's high school graduation open house last month. She brought the extras to work, and I'm talking bags and bags of them, to give away. Like, yeah, thanks for your sweaty trunk hamburger buns, Joan. Super delish! Someone mentioned she could take them back because Costco took anything and everything back so she tried at lunch and sure enough, no issues.

I had a coworker brag about how he scammed Costco with some steaks he bought. He paid something like $65 for a nice pack of steaks, cooked two, ate one, and then took the rest back claiming that they had a funny taste. He got his expensive steak and then his $65 back.

Repeatedly, we moved forward to give ourselves space. And she moved forward again, breathing on our neck. There was no line behind her/not a crowded area.

I had someone do that to me at Walmart once. I told her to back off and it surprised her, but she stepped back.

As dh got close to the front, he saw this second worker doing nothing. No one was noticing, so dh went ahead and walked to the checker. (He would have alerted lady in front of him but she was up next... like in 5 seconds). She screamed at him, saying he was cutting in front.....

They finished getting checked at approx the same time, and she was still screaming at him. He hadn't responded before, but finally couldn't take it, and said something like, "You were about to be checked. And you could have gone to that worker. All that fuss for 5 seconds of time." I wish he wouldn't have said anything, but she was unrelentingly upset that he "cut." Costco is a high stress place!!

You are better than I am... I would have said something before your husband did.

Oh I hate when they stop carrying my things.

They've stopped with the "take and bake" pizzas! First, they stopped making the one with the huge chunks of mozzarella and pesto sauce, that was about a year ago. Now, they don't do any of them anymore!

And their carrot cake! OMG it was amazing! But they haven't had it for a few years now.

Costco is the go-to supply run for office parties.

Does the Pentagon City store still have a coffee roaster?

I saw a couple acting really shady in one of the deli/refrigerated areas. I looked closely and realized they had two 2-packs of quiche. One was spinach and the other was cheese, something like that. They opened the package - one of those clear plastic lid pieces that snaps into a black tray with a paper band around the whole thing - swapped the quiches so they would have 2 cheese and no spinach and returned the spinach one to the case.

Ew. You know someone bought the 2 spinach ones - not realizing that the package looked tampered with - and their quiches had been touched by god knows who.

Omg. I've never seen anything this bad at Costco. I love Costco!

I hated going to the Pentagon City Costco, though. Now I love the DC one. So spacious.

I saw somebody returning an orchid plant.

Witnessed a physical fight between two women (who didn't appear to know each other) at the Gaithersburg Costco. It was crowded. Passive-aggressive pushing led to actual pushing, led to punches being thrown. I'll never go back there, even though it's near my office!

only rich people shop at costco?

That's what I thought, because who else but someone rich would have the space for buying in bulk. Plus having to have a car to transport all the bulky items bought. PLUS having to pay a membership fee to shop there in the first place. I have a tiny studio apartment I share with my teenager. I can't afford a car and we don't have space for things.

I think the Costco is for rich people thought goes back to when you could only pay with Amex (which you have to pay off every month) or debit (so you have to have money in your account).
