Concerned about lower spending on Regular Kids in FCPS?

Problem is--that we also spend extra money on the AAP programs. The only ones that don't get extra are the "gen ed"......

19:41 In what aspect can you prove that? FCPS would love to cut costs for AAP, but there are none to cut. The only extra costs are for general ed kids who get extra services. So in reality it's the bright general ed kids who are getting the additional money. Is this what you want to cut?

Really tired of paying all these taxes, only to have my "regular" kid pretty much ignored.

This. I have no problem spending extra on special needs kids. AAP kids are *not* special needs.

Those of us who have "regular" kids who don't need extra services (which cost extra money) should thank our lucky stars. And really, FCPS does a great job educating those regular kids, so i have no complaints.

+1. Guessing quite a few posters here don't even live in Fairfax.

But that's the reality everywhere, OP, I hope you understand that. It's part of living in a society.

Sick people cost more than healthy people.
Students who need services and accommodations cost more than students who don't.

The day you or your child needs a little something extra, are you going to be grateful that your government made laws allowing you to obtain it at taxpayer expense, or are you going to bitch that it's not enough???????

How about being thankful that your child doesn't require extra services?

I'm really tired of paying all these taxes and having my SN kid run through the wringer to get services THAT ARE REQUIRED BY LAW each year.

Come on people. Be glad your kid doesn't need these services and get over yourselves.

It's not the citizens. It's the illegals that drive most of the school spending these days.

Bingo illegals have sucked the resources, deport them all

Why thought should Fairfax be spending less on general ed students than Loudoun?

For the love of God. AAP kids get LESS than general ed kids. LESS. Less than all other kids. Find something else to be upset about.

Really? Then why is AAP always listed as one of the items to potentially cut whenever FCPS goes through its annual "we're broke" spiel? In addition, one thing AAP kids absolutely get is the freedom to choose their base school or a center - even when both schools offer LLIV. A choice of school is something Gen Ed kids do NOT get.

"Why thought should Fairfax be spending less on general ed students than Loudoun?"

At one end - less ESOL and FARMs kids.
At the other end - maybe fewer people with the money to get their kid tested for various things if the discussion is sub-optimal but not dire.

AAP get more. Even the bus isn't free. The real budget nightmare driver has been ESL. FCPS got between 3500-4000 official undocumented unacompanied minors between Oct 2013-Jan 2017. These are the people caught and placed with relatives or guardians [some or many of whom are illegals-ie Rockville rapist parent].

These are usually older children [no age spread given] but all get small class sizes etc. Moreover how many fit in a building?
