How much do you spend in a year on vacations?

We are at a high income level so we spend more. Not sure it is necessarily instructive though. Winter break ski trip was about $10k for 4 people. Going on another western ski trip in March that will be much less because airfare is free, maybe $4k. We spend much of the summer at the beach, although it's not all vacation. There isn't a rental cost but the cost of owning a house is pretty high. We drive there. Food is not much different than food here so I don't count that as a cost. We are planning a week in Europe in the fall to visit a friend. Airfare will probably be free, so maybe $5k on that trip? Plus various weekends (parents weekend at college, which requires a flight and hotel), a couple of ski weekends, DH is coming with me to FL for a work trip in March, etc. I travel a lot for work so sometimes add a weekend trip if it's to someplace good.

I am glad you pointed this out.....the OP could have done a search and was too lazy to do so.

HHI about 290 - 4 people

one all inclusive trip $4k
One trip to Europe to see family $5-6K
Long weekends driving range $2-3 K

Anywhere from 10K to 15 K

About 15 k.. Family of 5... ski trip out west...and I go to New York and buy things I do not need! My kids have gone to camp for years but this year thinking rent house but where?

Usually about $4000, but this year we are spending $15,000.

Somewhere between 30-40k.

One "big" vacation - 12- 15k.

Two medium - 8-10k.

One small beach vacay - 6-7k.

Family of five. Plus a couple long weekends, just adults. So ok, maybe a little over 40k.

For just me: $10 k last year

Family of 5.

We do Airbnb for about 12 nights a year when we ski (live in Rockies), as we ski about 20-24 days/year, that comes to about $5000 for lodging, but the passes cost $2800 and the gear just as much. Then we eat out. So figure 10K for skiing.

We do a fall trip for a week to somewhere warm, this year was Central America and cost was about $7000

Spring trip to somewhere warm, domestic, only about $4000 as we have free lodging.

Then we travel to the eastern shore for 2 weeks, probably another $5000 as again we have free lodging.

So, 26K on average?

Probably close to $50K.

One big vacation: $15-$20K (7+ days)

Two medium vacations: $7-10K (4-5 days)

4-5 long weekends: $3-5K

We have 3 children and the mother-in-law.

HHI - $500K
NW - $10M

-$10K on an international trip for spring break.
-$2K on odds and ends like a few weekends of local skiing.
HHI $390K; 3 school aged kids.

Close to 40K per year on vacations with HHI of ~400K? How retirement and college savings look? Seems like a lot.

I don't see why it's a lot since they are left with a very nice income after they spend on vacations.

It's a lot but they can afford it

Plus the beach house money isn't really vacation spending--the house is an asset that is probably appreciating at a decent rate.

Mid 40's, no kids, HHI, love to travel, and we spent about $55k last year, but that included a two week private safari which was about $30k. Normally we'll spend about $35k per year.

We budget $7K a year for true "vacations" - meaning a fun trip somewhere just for the pleasure of it. We also have a few trips back home to see family, but we drive the 10 hours and get an airbnb - maybe another $1K - $1500/year on those trips?

HHI is base of $215K, and we have quite low living expenses relatively (paid off house, no childcare, etc).

Not opposed to splurging certain years and spending more, but it isn't a huge priority to us. We really enjoy being home and put more money into home improvements and just enjoying day-to-day life versus a few weeks a year.

HHI 100K
International travel to visit parents/siblings: 10K, or more when we go to see our Asian family (20K, but every 4-5 years)
Family of 4.

We scrounge the rest of the year to be able to afford to visit our family abroad. It's nice to live in the US when you're a foreigner, but there is a cost attached to it.
