Worst week of the year to be at the gym

If it's a major issue for anyone then go at 5 am. I've never had a problem then!
Agree. While it's annoying that there are crowds, I still silently cheer those folks on. I know that there must be some who will continue working out as the year moves on. They will be healthier and happier and it will save the country some healthcare costs as well! Be positive, folks, and kind!

I've been waiting for these types of posts to start flooding my FB feed from the holier-than-thou gym goers. It pisses me off as much as the overcrowded gym must piss you off, I imagine.

My wife just went through her 7th IVF cycle which was negative. As part of the cycle she was on prednisone which made her gain some extra weight. The depression that resulted from the weight gain combined with the negative cycle was what pushed us to join the gym just a week shy of the new year. Sorry if our timing doesn't fit into everyone's busy gym schedule.

Don't worry - we won't "hog up the machines" and we'll adhere to "proper etiquette."

My point is just that the gyms are overcrowded this week and those of us who are there the 51 other weeks of the year have to adjust to more people being around. The simple fact is that most of those in there this week will drop off within the next few weeks.

I don't have the luxury of going around 10 a.m. I'd been at work for a few hours when I wrote the post.

F.U.

-Former gym, current fattie getting ready to head back to old gym. You have no idea what some else's circumstances are. FWIW I was so avid I worked out before thanksgiving dinner most years. Having a baby blew apart my schedule. Trying to ease our kid into daycare so I can get back in track. Will be sure to not work in....eye roll

Sorry you're not happy with your current weight, but don't direct your anger at me. I only made an observation about the gym being crowded this week and didn't pass judgment on anyone's circumstances. Maybe the FU should be directed at 14:25.

I run outside daily , in all the elements, and it drives me insane when the new year resolutions folks hit the same trail - no etiquette, wearing their over priced athletic wear, total novices bc they are over dressed (ear muffs, really?/Jacket and long sleeve shirt, cmon?), and hogging up the trail/sidewalk by leisurely running in the middle, and busy checking their music play list not to notice others around them. Do they not realize what cheeseballs they are?

I run outside daily as well and I felt similarly back in my self-centered 20s. Now, In my mid-30's, after marriage, a couple kids and facing some life-threatening illnesses in my close family, I'm still a daily runner but I'm now inspired by everyone who takes the first step toward finding their own path toward a healthier lifestyle. To anyone taking a risk and putting themselves out there at the gym or on the trails or on their local sidewalks, please know there are many of us who don't judge but rather we applaud your effort, whether it's on January 1, July 1, or any Monday of a new week, and believe in you.

I used to be a marathon runner. I get cold very very quickly. In winter I ALWAYS ran with a fleece headband covering my ears and a long sleeve thermal with a jacket over it. A novice I was certainly not.

i guarantee half or more of the people bashing those who are starting a new routine are in crappy shape, dress in yoga pants all the time with their puffy coat and are hurt from their cross fit cult.

I'm so sorry your week is ruined by fat people and the delicate balance of your workout will be disrupted this week but you do realize that those "resolutioners" likely made any new equipment that you enjoy those other 51 weeks possible?

Wow, some people need to be more welcoming and understanding. You guys are very prejudiced and selfish. Model good behavior and inform others of the rules courteously.

For the record, my office gym in a large downtown building showed no increase this AM.

You clearly do not work out regularly in a gym nor have ever worked at one. The sudden influx of gym goers in January is obnoxious and just a huge pain in the ass to those of us who have better lifestyles all 12 months of the year

And I don't think it can be said any more than this; we are all sorry that your week is disrupted by new fat people at the gym obstructing your regular view of the mirror.

OP, are you that porn star who took a picture of an older naked lady in a locker room and tried to fat shame her all over the Internet?

OP. You sound like a newbie. One year in exactly, to be precise.
