Awesome! I wish I didn't have such picky teenagers. Donating to churches and shelters is a great idea.

Thanks, OP, just bought 8 for a DC school.

THANK YOU OP! Just sent 8 coats to a group that helps families that are struggling. Thanks for posting something that allows all to benefit from or help others. Happy Holidays!

Do you think these coats will be warm enough? I always buy down since DS has to play outside no matter what each day.

It really doesn't get that cold in this area. These coats should work great.

My kids survive just fine without down. And these coats are better than hoodies, which is what a lot of kids are wearing because they don't have winter coats.

I would like to buy and donate coats. Does anyone know of a charity running a coat drive??

Except for a handful of days this area does not get cold enough for a very heavy coat.

These coats are plenty warm and originally around $85 so well made. All the ones I bought had 5 star reviews from a large number of reviewers on the Macy's site. For the person who asked here is one option for coat donation at Montgomery County Public Schools for the Head Start program:

MCPS Prekindergarten/Head Start
Rocking Horse Road Center, Room 141
4910 Macomb Road
Rockville, MD 20852
Attn: Lisa Conlon

I'm sure there are also plenty of local churches, etc. that would love donations of coats for parishioners in need.

This is OP. I am so glad I posted this and that so many of you are generously donating! Certain varieties look warmer than others but my family members also purchased them for their children and to donate and they are in a very cold part of country. Layered with snowbibs and sweaters will keep the kids warm.

I am sure the children receiving the donations will appreciate the coats. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, DCUM!

I posted earlier about buying a bunch. I forwarded it to friend and I know of two others who have purchased a bunch as well. Thank you again, OP!

Last winter, when the huge snowstorm was predicted, I cleaned out my kids outgrown snow pants and coats and brought them to their school (after calling first). I dropped them in the office and the guidance counselors discreetly sent them home with kids who needed them. If you can't find a coat drive, try calling the school to see if they know any kids who need coats.

I do second the church suggestion. My church keeps clothes on hand to give to people as needed. You'd be surprised how many people walk in to churches and ask for help.
