Yes, as a Mom of a 3 and 5 yr old, I was initially a little taken aback by the Elsa love and was concerned it related to the blonder, prettier (?) sister thing. But 50 watches later, I can confirm that the appeal is: (1) ice powers, (2) ice powers, (3), ice powers ... and (4) maybe a little of the ice castle and Let It Go. |
You're kidding right? The thing she did with her hair towards the end of the "let it go" song when she made the ice castle........ *download complete* |

I have 2 girls, who were 5 and 4 when the movie came out and my younger blonde daughter was into Elsa and my older, brunette daughter was into Anna.
Older DD is definitely the more pragmatic one. Younger DD is more impulsive. |
I agree! Not sure what the Elsa obsession was-- just because she was the Queen? I thought the movie was more about Anna. |
Yes, all of this. |
|
The letting go... the 'makeover' where she gets glittered over, stomps her foot and throws her crown/unleashes her hair and sings the song... good times.
Character wise, Anna is by far the better development. |

I like Anna very much. She is funny, brave, loving and kind - albeit needy. I always preferred Elsa. Both Anna and Elsa show significant emotional growth over the course of the movie. However, Elsa's challenges are arguably more personal and significant.
Her story was designed to be very empowering to kids who feel different. John Lasseter said he was inspired by his diabetic son, because Elsa cannot ignore or change her affliction. She has to learn to accept that aspect of herself (granted, thanks to Anna's unconditional love). Her struggle to overcome intrinsic but unfair challenges really speaks to many kids. At least, that's my theory. Feel free to tell me I am full of it.

| I agree, never got the hype about Elsa. Her whining got on my damn nerves. |

My 3 year old keeps singing, over and over
conceal don't feel and good girl that you have to be I have no idea what the rest of the song is (except for let it go) but why is she repeating those lines instead of let it go? but then again she likes Spirits too and that's a really cool song. |
WHen I read this, my thought is "girl, you better work" and then I laugh to myself because I am talking about a cartoon. And then I log on to Linked in because its time for me to go back to work! |
YES! Elsa turned into a stone cold brickhouse when she decided to be independent white woman!
|
| After she saw the movie my then three year old wandered around muttering about what she would do when she got her ice powers. |
|
Never mind all that shit, why's there no minority representation at all? Not even one person of color!
Frozens' racist as fuck. |
| Kids can tell that Elsa is the princess/queen. The whole point of the movie is that she has a special magic. Anna is basically the sidekick. |
