| Everyone is wrong here. Judge needs to throw it out. |
Yeah, he was probably uncooperative, possibly physical. Arresting him and charging him with a crime is a bit much. Righteously turning down the non-judicial program and demanding a court trial is also a bit much. The school should calm down, his mother should calm down. At 15, it's time for him to practice calming down, too. |

FCPS schools are practically prisons these days. Kids are treated like criminals, and going to act that way.
I would hope my kid would go to the cashier and politely say "excuse me, i forgot to grab my milk when i went through the line. may i get one now?" but that could still result in kids/adults thinking the kid was stealing. I would hope that my child would go to the Principal's office and politely explain the situation. I don't know what my kids would do, and I can't expect all kids to behave how I would expect one to act. The school needs to be reasonable. |
| Zero tolerance, coming to a school near you. |
"The teenager says he had forgotten to grab the drink the first time through the line at the Graham Park Middle School cafeteria, so he headed back." Sounds like he explained it at some point along the way. This has gone too far. |
| They should have given him detention or suspended him for a few days if he was disruptive and uncooperative. Calling the police sounds like the adults in the school don't know how to discipline kids. When my DD was in 2nd grade she would come home talking about the teacher sending kids to the principal's office. Most of the things she recounted were ridiculous reasons to send kids to the office, and showed the teacher wasn't capable of handling a class with 8 year olds. I volunteered in the class and the kids didn't seem any more disruptive than my other kid's classmates. I'm assuming the student in this case escalated the situation unnecessarily, but the adults took the ball and ran with it. To the pps saying cutting the line was wrong, I was a well mannered kid and I'm pretty sure I would have done the same since I already stood in line and only needed one thing. It just wouldn't have dawned on me at that age that it would upset someone. What a total waste of resources and ridiculous behavior all around. |
+1. What a joke. |
This was in Prince William, not Fairfax. The security officers at our middle and high schools bend over backwards to respect kids. |
|
Why on earth are people so mean to kids????
When there are real criminals in the world. |
I'm guessing teh school security officer is a cop. They didn't call one in. |

Frickin ridiculous
My father was an assistant principal. He faced down kids with knives and nunchucks. And I don't believe law enforcement was ever involved. Seriously? Going to court over a milk? I just can't |
The kid was offered the option not to go to court. He chose not to take that option. |
+1000 Ridiculous. |
He was offered a punishment. I wouldn't accept a punishment if I didn't do anything wrong. Good for this kid to have a backbone. |
Neve should have reached that level to begin with |
