WTF is wrong with schools? Why was detention not an option if the school was so convinced the child was in the wrong?

They tried and the kid didn't accept it. Thus the escalation. Please keep up.

That's not the way it works. Families challenge disciplinary actions all the time. There's even a process for it. The response is not to escalate it to a criminal matter.

Did I not read that the mother requested this?

rape - no jail
in possession of cocaine and having it found in your baby - no jail
take Free 0.65 milk - throw away the key!

Yes, as opposed to him admitting guilt for something he didn't do.

Noone is in jail, and no-one is going to go to jail. And 65 cents =/= free.

It was free to him because he was on the free lunch program.

Even he he is not the one paying for it...it's not free.... I'm not on the school's side, just wanted to point that out.

The school failed miserably. It was their call to escalate this to the police. If the issue was him being rude they could have given the kid detention.

The school prison pipeline at work.

From what I read in the paper: the parent chose to escalate it.

FWIW, when the officer stopped the kid, the kid threw the milk at him. Just because the kid gets free lunch, does not mean he gets to break the rules. If he forgot the milk, he could have said so. That is his story. He does not get to go get another one. We really do not know what happened.

He could have gone to see the principal and explain. He refused to do so. That is the problem--not the milk.

So, everytime a kid goes back and gets milk--he is supposed to get it? How often has the kid gone through the lunch line? Doubtful that he forgot the milk.

1. Mom said video shows otherwise. Let the video tell the tale.
2. Who steals milk of all things???? The fact that he didn't already have a carton at his table with his food corroborates his story. If there was a 2nd carton I'm sure that would've been said.

You seem like a PWC schools Central Office employee. Only one of you guys would try to justify this foolishness.

If the issue is his insubordination-not the milk- why the criminal charges for stealing milk? That's not appropriate use of the law or legal system. That behavior should've been addressed through the county's Code of Conduct for schools.

+1

And maybe the cop was an a-hole so the kid threw the milk. I might do the same.
