Prince William prosecutors are dropping charges against a Dumfries teenager accused of stealing a 65-cent carton of milk at Graham Park Middle School earlier this year. That’s according to Karl Brower, president of the Prince William chapter of the NAACP. The group spent the last few months helping 15-year-old Ryan Turk and his family navigate the unusual legal dispute, which was sparked by Ryan’s confrontation with a school resource officer at the Triangle school in May. The officer claimed that the teenager was trying to steal the milk, while Ryan told several media outlets that he qualified for free lunch at the school and didn’t think he was doing anything wrong. Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the decision Tuesday night. Ryan was facing charges of petit larceny and disorderly conduct, and was originally set to face trial in late November, Brower said. But prosecutors asked for a continuance in order to hammer out a deal with Ryan’s family lawyers, leading to the agreement to drop the charges. |
| Wonder what the agreement was. |
