Flat tire due to nail on Quincy Street NE across the street from LAMB

Anonymous
Brookland resident here. Usually cars get broken into at night around here. Kids walk around checking door handles to see if cars are unlocked at all hours though. FWIW, I live on Otis, just bought a car two weeks ago and it now has a nail in one of the tires. Could be a coincidence.

Hello there. I live on Randolph street (across the street from LAMB). I'm sorry you've experienced nails in your tires, your car broken into, etc., but, let's face it - this isn't Mulberry. Living in a city like Washinngton DC has its ups and downs. Sadly, having nails found in your tires twice in the same week is a real downer. We have our cars being broken into during the day but I'll take that over homicides! If you keep getting nails in your tires, please report that to the police. We've lived here a lot longer than you all have been taking your kids to LAMB. You owe it to those who live in the neighborhood to report such things. If you choose not to report it, we'll happily turn a blind eye when it's happening to your vehicles. You all sound like an entitled crowd. Woe is me...my car got broken into...woe is me.

I'm completely new to this conversational thread. I was really with you, too, but I don't understand why you turned bitter on people who are surprised to have damage to their cars. Woe is them? Sure! Woe is you? Sure! I seriously don't get the oppositional approach here. None of you want to have your tires vandalized by random neighborhood assholes and criminals-in-training, right?

You are allies. So, shut up and get along. Don't make me have to tell you twice.

The "woe is me" remark is directed towards all of the cars with Maryland license plates. I've seen a few Virgina tags but mostly it's all Maryland. Maybe if they abided by the District's rules about the kids having to live in DC proper, there wouldn't be such a fuss about this...maybe? Does the school even investigate that? You have this ludicrous lottery system and the kids that are accepted don't even live in DC. Yes, it's ludicrous. I'm sure there are cases where the parents have divorced and they are using one of the spouses addresses that is in DC but that can't be the case for the amount of cars that are parked on Randolph (and, I'm sure, Quincy, too) every morning.

But, yes, "woe is me" to all of you Maryland residents.

I am a DC resident and taxpayer. No, I do not like MD residents stealing our PS/PK placements (because that is exactly what it is - theft of services). Nonetheless, I can't say I wish anyone's tires to be slashed.

Do you seriously believe that the neighborhood thugs and proto-criminals who have decided to make a game of vandalism are doing it strictly to MD vehicles, because they're trying to protect PS/PK spots for DC residents? Because that's a level of sophisticated thought that is inconsistent with petty vandals.

Woe is all of us, apparently.

No, I do not believe that at all. I'd like to think that I'm not a Charter Conspiracy Theorist. That wouldn't be a good use of my time. Also, I can't imagine that is why people's tires are getting slashed. Sometimes kids have too much time on their hands and slashing tires falls under the "too much time on my hands" category.

As far as wishing these incidents on these people - I apologize if that's the impression I've given you all. I've lived on Randolph street all of my life (my parents bought the house when I was in 2nd grade and I inherited the house). It's just that I get annoyed with all of these cars coming in from Maryland. It would be nice if the school did some further investigation on where these kids really live.

PP Brookland resident here. The MD cars you are seeing are Perry st. Prep students (same location as Lamb). I've seen them too.

Neighbor here- I've been complaining about Perry St Prep on these boards for a while. At least 75% if not more of the students at Perry St Prep are dropped off in Maryland cars. I've tried reporting the situation to OSSE, but you need more information than a license plate. I might excuse some of them, but it's well over the majority. The worst part is that the school is super under enrolled. If they actually kick out the residency cheaters, the school would probably shut down. That may not be a bad thing.

The kids coming out of the cars with the MD plates are not wearing uniforms. Doesnt Perry St. Prep have uniforms?

They have a dress code, not Uniforms.

They do have a uniform policy. Why must people come on this board and give out false information.

Lamb parent here-

We are a peaceful campus and have no issues with Perry St Prep. As far as I know (I don't work for the school) they have been good to us.

As far as the implication that there are LAMB residency cheaters- this is utterly false. I who have lived in the district for 20 years had my papers gone through with a fine toothed comb. I know many kids at LAMB and would not hesistate to report anyone who was cheating. I know this sentiment is felt by the staff as well. I am there early and leave late (daughter is clingy), and I have never seen a lamb kid dropped off by a car with Maryland plates unless it's a nanny or a company car (I asked and they confirmed with proof). So do not post lies on here.

I understand what people are saying about cars with MD plates dropping off kids at Perry St. There is a price sir to report this, and a witch hunt doesn't accomplish anything.

They used to have a dress code policy (not a uniform) posted on those flashing billboards outside the school. I think they take a more reasonable approach to uniforms that some schools.

So far, so good, everyone. I've parked on Otis all week and I haven't had any problems at all. I'll park on Quincy next week just to see if everything that previous happened was just a fluke.

Also don't forget that if one parent resides in the district, the student is eligible to attend school there, even if they primarily reside in a household in MD or VA.
