states are not violating federal law by not deporting illegals because states don't have the right to deport illegals. That is the feds' job. If they want them, they will come get them. Also, some states have made pot legal even in DC, home of our fed. gov't. That is a violation of federal law, but the feds aren't going after the people because it's a small blib of a larger problem. Same for illegals. The feds have larger game to catch - illegals who commit crimes. Wouldn't you say that should take precedence over a 6 yr old illegal immigrant attending your precious FFX schools? As a citizen, though, you have every right to report them. Here's their contact # to report crimes. It's on their website, top of the page: https://www.ice.gov/ Call 1-866-DHS-2-ICE |
Also, Adams Morgan got too expensive years ago. It was almost entirely Latino (Salvadorians, Nicaraguans) in the 80s. |

They spend a ton of their income on rent. Since many are illegal, I don't think they can get welfare aside from free schools and food for the kids. There are somehow cost medical clinics a well.
They don't have a pantry full of food, and they buy their clothes at thrift shops. They take the bus or carpool with friends, relatives or neighbors. Their kids don't have books and many of the toys are broken, second hand toys without batteries. They might have one dresser for everyone and a table and chairs and a couch. No decorative accessories from Homegoods. They don't buy their lunch out, and they don't eat and drink out often. |
Holy christ this is a blanket statement. There are also hispanic residents of Fairfax County who live in nice homes with their families who have good jobs and good cars and dont need to "carpool with friends". There are hispanic residents of Fairfax County who live in townhomes, who live in condos, who are legally in this country. Yes there are lower income people of all races and ethnic backgrounds in this county who meet the above description. ALthough I assume that whomever wrote the above description is describing the intro scene of a movie they saw once, or a combo of several movies/TV shows, and has never actually *known* anyone who isn't upper middle class? Where do these hispanic residents live in Fairfax County? Drive down Backlick Rd in Springfield (between Old Keene Mill and Braddock, specifically). Drive through Herndon, especially down the road (can't think of the name) that has Worldgate on it. Drive down US1 in Alexandria from Crystal City basically to the end of the county. Hang around in Centreville near the intersection of 66 and 29. Drive through Falls Church in the neighborhoods near the Home Depot off of 50. Drive through Annandale. |

| Housing is less expensive. A good deal of multi-family housing was built in Fairfax in the 1970s and 1980s. It is now in the cycle of needing a re-do, but landlords are squeezing the last usefulness out of it by renting to lower income people. Once they exhaust the housing, it will be either torn down or renovated. See the Arlington and Bethesda models. |
Yes, there are middle class, and even affluent Hispanics in the area (I'm married to one). But usually they are English-speaking. OP asked specifically about non-English speaking Hispanics in her post. |
I agree with you that there are some middle and upper income hispanics But the areas you describe also have terrible schools, and tons of loitering/day laborers milling around..... not exactly good selling points for other people wishing to live in an area |
Exactly. I went to a talk by Corey Stewart a few years back, and he warned about this. |

In answer to your question, Fairfax County is becoming more urbanized and less suburban. Especially in the parts that other people have cited here. This is pretty normal evolution in housing and growth of cities. The city is expanding outward. Immigrants tend to live in cities because of availability of mass transit and jobs. This has been going on forever in cities all over the United States. The most recent immigrants happen to be Latinos. The Americas are comingling . . . it's part of a natural globalization process. Immigrants in Europe tend to be more North African or Eastern European because those places are nearby. Same for us. |

I like to go garage saleing on Saturday morning and it's about 90% Hispanics (it's cheaper than Goodwill). They get up super early and stake out the best sales. DH lived in super cheap housing in Merrifield ($400 for his room) before we were married and it was about 12 persons to an apartment there. SO many cars.
This area isn't that expensive to live in if you shop cheaply and live with many other people. Our incomes are much higher than low income people could get elsewhere and so many people here aren't willing to do any manual labor at all so there's lots of side jobs available. |
They couldn't read your "Whites Only" signs. |
| Here's the thing. If you have immigrant families moving into your community, it is a great thing. Stop complaining. It means your local economy is healthy and creating jobs. Not necessarily great jobs, but jobs for people willing to work hard jobs to get their kids in good schools and communities so they will have more opportunities. |
Perhaps true for white collar immigrants moving into an area (mainly Asians/South Asians) but really not so for the demographic that OP made reference to ....... because that often represents a run down area or even what might be viewed as a "changing neighborhood". Even liberal whites - actually especially liberal whites - stay the hell away from that sort of area. |

Quick google search shows 15.4% of Arlington is Hispanic.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlington_County,_Virginia#Demographics 15.58% Hispanic in FFX county: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairfax_County,_Virginia#Demographics Why are there SO MANY more Hispanics in FFX? Well, the truth is, there aren't. |
