They spend a ton of their income on rent. Since many are illegal, I don't think they can get welfare aside from free schools and food for the kids. There are somehow cost medical clinics a well. They don't have a pantry full of food, and they buy their clothes at thrift shops. They take the bus or carpool with friends, relatives or neighbors. Their kids don't have books and many of the toys are broken, second hand toys without batteries. They might have one dresser for everyone and a table and chairs and a couch. No decorative accessories from Homegoods. They don't buy their lunch out, and they don't eat and drink out often.
Holy christ this is a blanket statement. There are also hispanic residents of Fairfax County who live in nice homes with their families who have good jobs and good cars and dont need to "carpool with friends". There are hispanic residents of Fairfax County who live in townhomes, who live in condos, who are legally in this country. Yes there are lower income people of all races and ethnic backgrounds in this county who meet the above description. ALthough I assume that whomever wrote the above description is describing the intro scene of a movie they saw once, or a combo of several movies/TV shows, and has never actually *known* anyone who isn't upper middle class? Where do these hispanic residents live in Fairfax County? Drive down Backlick Rd in Springfield (between Old Keene Mill and Braddock, specifically). Drive through Herndon, especially down the road (can't think of the name) that has Worldgate on it. Drive down US1 in Alexandria from Crystal City basically to the end of the county. Hang around in Centreville near the intersection of 66 and 29. Drive through Falls Church in the neighborhoods near the Home Depot off of 50. Drive through Annandale.
