Acne -homemade treatment and it worked wonders

Go right ahead and report it but this is not an ad at all and it would be a shame to delete it although with the limited search function here I doubt others will find it as time goes on. I just wanted to share it because it worked so well and so quickly and in a way is unorthodox although I did think of it when researching that spray mentioned above which also contains probiotics.

FWIW, I've mentioned the probiotic brand above plenty on DCUM for gut issues/antibiotic stuff along with the names of the 2 other brands we are using for our sick DK so it's not like I'm only promoting one brand. I just hope it continues to work so well as time goes on for teen DD as it's so hard to have skin as broken out as hers was.

I hate the ads too but I suspect Jeff may be getting paid for them.

An ad for what? I'm not, OP, by the way. OP said her DD broke open a probiotic capsule, made a paste, and put it on her face. What is OP advertising for? I thought the idea sounded great - I am not about to buy the probiotics OP linked, though - I am going to break open a capsule that I already have.

You're an idiot. I'm the poster that asked for the link, and I'm not OP.

Go away.

Of all the wonky clickbait threads, this does not seem like one of them. I'm thrilled it is working for OP's child but I'd like to hear back in a month if the improvement is still on track.

I don't have acne but I have considered using a Squatty Potty....

Ha! OP here. I will try and report back in a month and let you all know. That's why I also asked others to report on it - curiosity. I never guessed our external skin would benefit from the same probiotic bacteria strains that reside in our guts. Honestly if it works long-term it would put a huge dent in all the other products although I suspect that what works for one may not work for others with acne, just like other health issues.

NP here. I was breaking out on my chin, and I broke open a probiotic capsule and mixed it with the cerave lotion that I usually put on my face at night. By morning it was pretty much gone. I'm 40, and I also use differin and a benzoyl peroxide/antibiotic spot treatment prescribed by my derm, but those didn't work. Amazing! I left the lotion/probiotic mix on all night. I figure it isn't necessary to wash away a probiotic. The mix was grainy, and I couldn't mix the whole capsule's worth in, but it worked!

What's the thinking on why probiotics on the skin would help acne? What do they do?

They add beneficial microorganisms, which may be removing dirt, oil, and bacteria. A cleanser or acne cream would remove everything (including the beneficial organisms).

- just a guess, based on how probiotics work in the body.

07:52 here. I agree with this description. It is normal for humans to host microorganisms throughout the body (for example, gut or skin flora, termed the microbiome). Probiotics flood our system with beneficial organisms, which effectively crowds out harmful organisms. I keep this concept in mind when I use probiotics to protect me GI system while traveling. I take probiotics before eating to prevent foreign germs from settling in my system.

Any one know if this works on rosacea? My BIL looks horrific and wont go to a doc unless he's almost dead.

07:52 here. I'm no expert myself, but I found this link from the American Academy of Dermatology discussing probiotics for rosacea, as well as acne. The nice thing about probiotics is that there are generally no side effects, so I think it's worth a try.

07:52 here. Just wanted to chime in with some advice on getting probiotics at a low cost. I have seen Culturelle for $18 for 18 pills, but it isn't necessary to spend that much.

I got a container of 120 probiotic capsules from Costco 3 years ago for about $18. I store them in the refrigerator and use them on and off. They still work -- I used them to ward off a GI illness a few months ago, and they helped my skin this week, as I described. I still have a quarter bottle left.
