Kaya Leaving; John Davis in as interim

I want her to come on down & teach in DCps. Show us how it's done!

Good riddance!

Shit. Kaya might be ready to go - or it might ge time for Kaya to go - but does anyone have faith in a bowser appointment?

I'm worried about it getting worse.

And double shit - what do test scores look like?! Yikes.

She was in tears when she announced it to central office staff.

Exactly. Or as she said about people who were moving out of my neighborhood because of schools, someone else will move in. -- at least to her position.

I am/was on the Chancellor's Parent Cabinet and her disdain for people who weren't satisfied with their "good enough" neighborhood schools was palpable. I was quite disenchanted and felt as if she had no will or ability to help ok schools become really good schools. Her focus was squarely on the underperforming schools, which is understandable, but doesn't help most middle class parents want to stay in DC. It must be incredibly tough to be in charge of such a divided school system like DCPS.

How long has/did MCPS go without a superintendant? This won't be an easy search. Is Jennie Niles in charge of it?

Hint, the leader of the DCPS should reflect the majority of the school population and not the majority of the city... Bowser do the right thing and not the popular thing *coughs*

Talkng about the "angry white parent" syndrome about to raise it's ugly head. Trump-talk to the tenth-power....I guess will begin with building a border around Capitol Hill so that "others" won't cross the boundaries. Now the summer has gotten interesting.

Is this a WS posting? WTF does "DCPS should reflect the majority of the school population and not the majority of the city" mean? Kaya was black. Yippee.

Did she want to go or was she asked to leave?

What's the word on John Davis? hat does he bring to this role, if even in the interim?

I know I've met him but I sincerely don't recall the context.

Who's the biggest real estate developer in the city with an education background or a family member who would like to dip a toe in education? That will be Bowser's pick!

What Schools does his kids attend?

What I enjoyed most about her letter was the capitalizing of some REALLY important job titles (Deputy Chancellor, Chancellor, and Mayor) vs. lower case for some of those more run-of-mill jobs (principal, president, first lady).

So what's the consensus at central office? I'm a DCPS teacher and I believe that the bad press from the contract talks, the school violence, and the poor test scores sealed her fate.

Yo OP, if you feel that way YOU need to quit. I'm so TIRED of DCPS employees posting here like they aren't part of the problem too. Good riddance to you, OP!

She was not good for neighborhood schools or school safety. No regrets here. Farewell to the arrogance.
